This is a good starter fountain pen for someone on your gift list or maybe yourself. Most people would choose either a Lamy Safari or a Pilot Metropolitan as the best starter pens. I think this one should be added to that list. I got the 'fine' nib based on previous experience with other fountain pens. We generally use cheaper paper in the US and wider nibs sometimes put too much ink on the paper. As a result, smearing can be a problem. So for me, I think the fine nib is best. If you have a larger handwriting, you might consider a wider nib. If you've never tried a fountain pen, you should try one. Get one like this or a cheaper one and see if you like it. I know people don't write as much on paper as they used to, but it's still a joy to receive a handwritten letter.This pen writes good for a relatively inexpensive fountain pen. The fine nib writes smoothly if faced correctly to the writing surface. As with most fountain pens, no pressure is required to write. T
This is the 2nd Parker pen I have. They're great.

For those of us who love fountain pens this is an excellent budget choice. Weight and build quality are excellent. Ink flows well, no bleeding, light touch, clip is soft.Only down side it does not come with a piston to refill ink so have to buy cartridges.
A fine writing tool.

As a novelist my ideas flow into written words in longhand writing on lined paper. I recently switched from pencils to fountain pens and this Parker IM is marvelous. I ordered the trio kit of black and blue refills and the conversion pump. Today I slipped in a refill, screwed on the barrel, and smooth, even letters flowed as the nib touched the paper.Some reviewers have knocked the quality being made in China, so just try and find a pen made in 1960.For me the quality of this pen rivals higher priced models, and I'm extremely happy with my purchase. This is a fountain pen I will treasure for a very long time.

This pen replaced a gold-nibbed Parker I've had for more than 30 years. I've worn the nib down on that and it is a medium nib. Been wanting a fine point nib. This one is stainless, which made me a bit cautious. I've been using this pen for a couple of months now and love it. Smooth and delightful to write with.

The pen is beautiful when you first look at it, but the weight the feel and the quality of materials leave you feeling short changed if you are familiar with older Parker quality standards. I returned it and bought a Chinese fountain pen with a pumped up evocative name instead, I was stunned by the quality and the value of the pen i took a chance on at half the price. Lesson for me: if you're going to buy an asian made product anyway, don't pay for the empty promise of a name that made it's mark in the west.

pros: i have to warn my coworkers every day to not steal my pen. it’s a fantastic conversation starter. it’s gorgeous.cons: the nib writes with a 0.7 mm line, does not split with pressure for calligraphy. when i use it very often, the base can come unscrewed and the pen becomes loose. the cap does not stay very well on the back of the pen. adding an ink cartridge might require more force than very arthritic hands can manage. the ink washes out with a water spill, so don’t drop your documents/sketchbook/notes or let it get rained on.pros: very good flow from the nib, but not overly so. ive had it for a month and a half and it hasn’t ink-stained anything. it rescrews easily when it becomes loose from overuse (see above) and is only noteworthy if gone unnoticed for too long, as then the whole thing will fall apart. it’s happened twice to the extent that i was confused why the nib kept turning when i tried to write, an easy fix. apparently can work with an adapter for other ink cartridges if you want to change the ink to a different brand or color. i love the arrow styling of the clip on the cap. it’s a gorgeous pen for a newbie to quill-tip fountain pens, fancy enough for a nice gift without being overly expensive or overly complicated. great for an icebreaker at work, school, or on the go; see a cutie? whip this bad boy out and write up a grocery list on a napkin, bada bing bada boom, now you’re talking and you’ve got a grocery list. add a malbec to it, you might try it later with the cutie over dinner.

I've had a lot of pens, many of them gold nibs; Montblanks are really smooth and have gold nibs, for example, but they cost several hundred bucks. There are lots of steel nibbed pens out there that go for under $50, and I've bought a few, only to be disappointed for the most part by scratchy nibs and leaky ink flow. For $26 bucks this pen is an outstanding value--writes well, decent ink flow (unlike some Montblanks that flow too much and leak!), very attractive body (it is very solid heavy metal). Some suggestions--use a heavy dark ink with this pen. I started it off as a 'red' correction pen since it is fine point, but didn't get much ink on the page with a Pelican red ink that was admittedly rather watery. Then switched to a Noodler's dark black, and bingo! it suited the pen well You have to get special Parker ink well, so costs a little extra money for that (don't be satisfied with the cartridges, buy the good ink--a pen is only as good as the ink you put in it). I love the gunmetal grey body, and steel accents are nice, not too fancy like some inexpensive pens that have gold accents that make it look a little too expensive, but cheap at the same time. I have a new $100 Pelican with gold nib, but prefer this one. Nib is oddly short and squat, interesting look. Note that there are different kinds of Parker IMs--this one has the short nib, there is also a long narrow nib--I have one of those too, and its good, but not as good as the short nib.
