Innovation is our Tradition

Innovation is our tradition and has been ever since we patented the first Swiss Army Knife in 1897. Here in the Swiss Knife Valley, we take lumps of molten steel and blend with generations of experience to forge knives which are loved all over the world. As we continue to find new ways to improve our knives we also strive to apply better solutions that meet new requirements and our customers unarticulated needs.

Original Swiss Army Knife Iconic Design red on craft tool table with metal

Iconic Design

In 1891 Karl Elsener, the owner of Victorinox, was under contract by the Swiss Army to produce a folding pocket knife to be suitable for use by soldiers for opening canned food and disassembling the Swiss service rifle. Elsener invented a special spring mechanism allowing him to attach the tools on both sides of the handle, using the same spring to hold the tools in place. This innovative design meant Elsener could put twice as many features on the knife, which included a blade, a second smaller cutting blade, reamer, can-opener, screwdriver, corkscrew, and wood fiber grips. The Swiss Army Knife is the most recognizable icon of utility and smart design, and the knives are still made exclusively in only two factories in Switzerland.

I’ve been using a climber now for quite some time, and even though I have gone to other knives for every day carry, I continually come back to the trusty climber. it has all I need for daily tasks at work, at home and the family counts on me having it on me too.how do I use the climber?- blades (x2, large and small) are used for what blades are used for cutting!- scissors seem to be indispensable for daily tasks, and this is the one my family counts on me having- small flat screw driver on can opener, works excellent as a Philips screw driver and fits perfectly in most Philips screws I have ever tried. and yes, I have used the can opener too, works great.- large screw driver is not used much by me, but the bottle opener works great, and it also is a decent pry bar- corkscrew is great for picking knots and holds a mini-screw driver for small screws such as eye glass screws. mini drive purchased separately- awl is great for punching holes in just about anything-

I seem to settle for the climber for my particular uses. This one is number three. The first was black and lost in a downspout and dry well, and the second was red and just saw a lot of wear, chipping ect. I will send it back to be renovated. The third is blue sapphire, blue was the color that I always wanted, and after 40 years I have finally got it. The covers are translucent not solid but does not detract from the appearance of the tool. These pocket knifes are still well made and perform a miriyad of tasks for daily random use. The model that I selected is a great balance of weight and functionality. I think that everyone should carry one with them everyday. If you do get one you will wonder why you didn’t have one for all of the past. Works for me. Choose a model that works for you.

This arrived a few days ago.Wow this SAK is really nice. The blue really looks sharp. 5?All tools in working order.Came perfect right out of the box.Right now its just hanging out in my collection, I’m not sure it will ever see the outdoors..Thats how nice it looks.I have others I use as EDC.It would be upsetting to scratch this SAK.That’s how much I like it.Also doesn’t help I’m a knife guy , with a collection.Amazon thx u. ?Service was great as always.Victorinox very nice. 5?Perfect as my first.

  4. J. Hall (verified owner)

This is one of the better everyday carry systems by Victorianox. It has most of the primary tools you’ll need without being too bulky. The only tool I feel this size is missing is pliers.

  5. Elaine M. Bak (verified owner)

Live it, take it everywhere I go, knives are sharp, the scissors are awesome. Never realized how often I could use a occurs until I had a great pair on me. Would def buy again – and I LOVE the sapphire blue.

  6. G-Man (verified owner)

This version of the Swiss knife has everything I look for and need for a pocket knife. In addition to the usual stuff (blade, bottle and can opener, etc.), this version has scissors and a cork opener. Both tools came very handy several times in the past. The translucent blue is a nice variation from the usual deep red. I recommend it

  7. Mick (verified owner)

I’m not much of a handyman or outdoorsy person, but there’s been enough times where at least 3 of these attachments could have been useful. This can be forgotten in my bag without issue and it’ll be there if needed.

  8. Jim (verified owner)

This is obviously a very versatile pocket knife because of the various options. It is my everyday carry and I have used it to cut tennis balls at work, cut tags off of clothes, open bottles etc. I am really happy with this buy

  9. DIAMOND MONTANO (verified owner)

Every woman should carry something. I go to the mountains a lot and it comes In handy.

  10. Les D (verified owner)

The usefulness. The crisp design. The sharpness. In 1976 I was in a meeting with advertising experts. One man mentioned that he had worked on the Swiss Army Knife account. He was worried as he had no idea how to advertise such a product. The client handed him a knife and asked him to carry it for a week. The rest is history.
