I installed these star ratchets on my old-school quick release hub, the hardest part was getting the end cap off. I used a QR skewer and put it in from the other side (same side as the brake rotor). Instead of putting it through the hole I intentionally butted it against the inside of the cap and pushed the cap out (may have to tap gently with a tool). The freehub was easy to pull up and off (be careful, the ratchets and springs will be loose at this point) and it's just a matter of putting it back together with the new star ratchets and grease. It works great and I'm enjoying the decrease in the engagement angle. It even sounds slightly more bee-like (think King or Industry Nine) but not quite as loud as those hubs. Some people extend the spring to make the sound louder, but I'm more concerned with performance and reliability than sound.My only issue (and why I gave 4 and not 5 stars) -- why do they cost so much? I decided to upgrade my DT240s freewheel when I noticed some wear in the aluminum body of the freewheel hub. I replaced the aluminum for the steel hub; yes, it is heavier but at least will be long lasting.... So as part of the upgrade I decided to but the new ratchet with more teeth than the original. Obviously having the DT Swiss original grease was perfect to do a nice professional job.

This product has the immediate, noticeable effect of removing a lot of the loose engagement that comes with stock hubs/ cranks - especially if you are moving from a 36T or smaller. The drive power feels like it engages 10 times faster. Installation was super easy if you have basic MTB mech skills - +/- 10 minutes. *It does make your cassette sound like you are being chased by a swarm of angry bees though!

I tried to skimp out and purchase a Chinese version of this ratchet set up. Bad move. I decided to just spend the money since i wanted the 54 tooth set up. The install was a breeze, the craftsmanship of the gear was as expected when you pay the price for such small pieces of metal. They do their job and I can't complain. I am happy with the purchase because it does exactly what it states and fits as it should. If there are any issue i have a recourse with the company (DT Swiss or the retailer)

Upgraded from the standard 18T ratchet on a DT Swiss 350 hub to the 36T. The installation is easy and takes less than 10 minutes with the supplied grease. Be careful not to apply too much grease! Riding technical terrain like southern Utah, the 10 deg engagement is a huge improvement when ratcheting pedals to clear rocks. The 36T ratchet should be standard. Worth the cost of the upgrade.

54T - Nice upgrade

I had the 36T already and liked that, but it was getting old. The 54T reduces the pedalling deadzone to 6 degrees. When standing still that's almost imperceptible compared to the 10 deg. The difference comes when riding slowly and rachetting frequently--small, quick leg kicks translate into little bursts of torque. It's a subtle, and expensive upgrade that I've been enjoying.

A great upgrade that's more than a little bit overpriced.

This is a really worthwhile upgrade to do to your DT hubs. I run this kit both road and mountain, and the improvement in how quickly the hub engages is immediately noticeable.I knocked off one star because - let's face it - this thing is RIDICULOUSLY over priced. $100 for two small bits of stamped aluminum and a couple of springs is highway robbery. But - it's a great upgrade nonetheless, and worth doing, especially if you're already servicing an existing freehub.

5 minute install, including removing the rear wheel. Plug and play.Noticeable increase in engagement over 36T. Whether there's a truly practical improvement is subjective, but the lack of a discernable "dead spot" between engagement points is satisfying.Going a little heavy on the lube keeps them quiet.Overpriced for what it is, dirt cheap compared to a new higher engagement hub, few of which match DT's quality.Actually cost less than the 36T at time of purchase.

I bought the 54t version, amazing upgrade, once you switch you'll never go back. There is a lot of complaining in the reviews about the price but remember these are high-precision machined parts.
