Winsor & Newton Drawing Ink

Our Drawing Inks have been used by illustrators since their introduction by Winsor & Newton in the 1890’s, where the main requirement is brilliance of colour.

Today they are formulated from a series of soluble dyes in a superior shellac solution. These inks can be applied with brush, dip pen or airbrush and are widely used by designers, calligraphers and artists as well as illustrators.

This set includes eight colours in 14ml bottles including: Sunshine Yellow, Vermillion, Deep Red, Purple, Ultramarine, Brilliant Green, Peat Brown, Black. Actual contents may vary.

Brilliant Colours

Formulated from a series of soluble dyes in a shellac solution, our drawing inks offer unrivalled strength and colour brilliance.

Colour Mixing

The drawing inks allow overlaying of different colours for attractive colour mixes. All the colours are water resistant except Liquid Indian Ink, Gold and Silver.

Fully Intermixable

All the colours are intermixable. Gold and Silver should be added to other inks in small quantities to avoid thickening. Mixtures of Gold and Silver should not be stored together due to adverse chemical reaction.

I cannot rave about these inks enough! They are stunning. Beautiful pigment, easily bendable and wonderful to work with. The colors are very true to their swatch and any ink artist will love these. Most of the complaints are due to the lack of opacity which is needed for calligraphy purposes which these sets of inks were not intended for. Drawing inks are more translucent to allow layering and blending so keep that in mind when ordering. This company produces some of the highest quality art supplies at an affordable price and I will continue to buy nearly all my inks and paints from them! Can’t wait to try their markers!!

I love these inks. I am still getting to know them and use them, but I love them so far. I have one caveat though, and that is that the black in my set was leaking. The box corners, and the label on the bottle, were gummy with black ink, and It took some effort to clean it up. I am okay with this though, because every time I have ordered black ink, it always seems to leak a little. The bottles were secure, the lid had just untwisted a little bit in the box. I still had more than half the bottle left to use, and the other inks were fine. Just don’t wear a white shirt on the day you plan on receiving and opening the ink.

Very nice set of colors. I bought this, assuming I could mix any of the colors (scarlet, canary yellow, and blue) much like the colors in printer ink. (The scarlet is a magenta, the blue, a cerulean.)It was nice for that. Canary and scarlet made a red when mixed. They could easily be mixed and diluted. No problems. They will stain. If you’re new to ink, I’d recommend you get some oil-based ink, since this water-based ink will not mix with it. It can yield neat effects. Also get some masking fluid.. and glass dip pens are cool, often times more affordable than a dip pen with interchangeable nibs.

(For reference, I ordered the William collection pack)The colors are pretty, but these inks are NOT permanent. I had left them to dry for many hours, and they still smeared and bled in the most ugly manner. the only one to not do so is the black indian ink. On top of that, the vermilion bottle wasn’t closed properly before shipping and a good amount of the ink had spilled everywhere in the package. Several of the boxes were coated in dried ink and had to be thrown away, which is a shame as they were very pretty boxes. (As a side note, I decided to see if the ink on the packaging would reactivate with water just for fun, and sure enough, it reactivated like crazy!)It really isn’t worth buying this set of inks when cheap watercolor cakes are more permanent and just plain work better than these. I’m an illustrator and I would never use these in my work unless it was a throw away sketch or concept. If someone told me that the normal inks had been switched with the cal

Lovely. Works well in concert with watercolor, acrylic, other inks. Granulates nicely with W&N granulation medium (except for the black India ink). I may even keep it in the packaging since that’s so pleasing. I didn’t have the problem some other reviewers mentioned of having some of the bottles arrive with ink leaking out. If I did, I would have returned/exchanged. You guys can always return and/or exchange these products as long as you do it promptly. Amazon pays return postage for defective products. I’m glad I bought these inks. Loads of new options for my painting.

Winsor and Newton drawing ink is, in a word, incredible. This is one of two sets, but aside from both having black their colors are a bit different. I believe the Henry collection pack has slightly darker tones and more secondary colors while the William collection is brighter. Both sets are boldly colored and will definitely pull their weight while drawing with them.Regarding the ink itself, it’s dye-based and has a range of applications. You can do line art, paint (ink?) in colors, use a dipping pen for writing (do NOT use a fountain pen, it wasn’t made for this kind of ink!), and if you’re daring you could also mix the colors together for new combinations. If you need a light tone, simply thin it out with water. All colors are water resistant once they’re on the page, so they will not be smearing easily. The ink dries reasonably quickly, doesn’t bleed, and its transparency allows for colors to be layered on top of one another for added depth. My only gripe is

These are my favorite inks! I’ve used many and these are hands-down the best. I’m very happy to have found them on amazon at a great price. First, the packaging is so cute! (If you’re an artist, like me, I know you’ll appreciate that ?) The colors are vibrant, they’re mixable, but if you want and ombré effect, you can dip into multiple colors and get a color flow. The ink has a laquer finish so they dry nicely without color bleed, but that means that you do need to use an alcohol rinse and clean for your nibs and brushes. These will always be my go-to inks!

The media could not be loaded. I bought Henry Collection pack and love the vibrancy of colors. I bought them for painting and nib pen and modern calligraphy. I was hoping I could use them for lineart before watercolors but, as you can see in the video, all of them (except for the black) bleed. Brown doesn’t bleed too much, so it can work if you are careful not to brush heavily on top of it.Things I really loved is that you can mix them to create new colors, you can also blend them while applying (like the green/blue/yellow on the leaf of the video) and they can dry as smooth blends (although it dries fast). When diluted with water you can create soft pastels which are still vibrant. The way they look reminds me of copic markers, so I will use them as a cheaper alternative.Because of all the uses I can give to them (painting with them similar to watercolors, or for calligraphy or even instead of alcohol ink markers), I would definitely recommend them. Also becaus

I wanted to love this set of inks. Some of them can be thinned with water. Some cannot. Some are a blend of different pigments so the underlying pigment stains and the ink separates when thinned with water.Inks that didn’t have the problem: Scarlet, Violet, Yellow, Black, and Orange.Colors that stain paper with yellow: Green, Brown, Orange (on watercolor paper).Color that stained purple: Blue. The blue ink separates into blue and purple if touched with water or worked too much on paper.I wanted to be able to thin these with water and mix them, but they will not work uniformly for this purpose. I had to return them. The ink on dry paper, strait out of the jar works alright; most of the time. It is only semi-permanent and will lift more off of smooth paper than a more toothy or fluffy paper.

This set of inks is great. The color selection is fantastic, the quality and pigmentation is great, I honestly think if I were more experienced with inks and better at using them this would be 5 stars.Im still learning so Ive been struggling with some things. For instance, Im used to painting with watercolor and in school used sumi inks. I tried painting with these in that way and learned the ink likes to completely soak to the other side of multiple kinds of watercolor paper. I have been experimenting with using dip pens with these for lineart, painting with diluted ink for shading (because they are waterproof once dry so I can glaze watercolor over them) and so far its been a really really fun experience! It would be nice if info or demos were available like in a paper pamphlet or something in the package but its not necessary as these are very easy to play with and learn with and a little goes such a long way Ive had these for months now and the bottles are stil
