Victorinox Farmer X Alox

I own many knives, but this was my first SAK. The Farmer was suggested to me by a friend who said “the only thing missing are scissors.” In searching I saw the Farmer X with scissors, so I ordered. I like a lighter knife, so when I first received this one my first was “I should have ordered the original Farmer” because it would have been thinner, lighter and I didn’t think I would use the scissors that often. Well, I’ve had the knife two weeks and I’ve easily used the scissors more than any other tool on the knife, so that answers that.Lastly, the blades are impressively sharp. Very happy with this purchase.

I misplaced my first one, after a few months I realized how much I missed it. I work in an office environment; wearing a lanyard with dress pants would look silly. The brass fish hook has allowed the pocketed knife to stay comfortably in place.When not at my desk, I’m either in a data closet, behind patch panels or in server racks, this little tool meets all the unplanned needs for tightening a screw, remove a wallplate, adjustment of this or that.Being amongst office dwellers I occasionally see eyes grow a little wide if you flip open a one-handed knife, its a weapons-banned zone and a Swiss pocket knife appears to be less unsettling.On weekends, it’s jeans; I’ll carry a sheathed Leatherman, but this knife still accompanies me.

Had a couple SAKs when I was a kid. They either got lost, stolen, traded, or sold over the years. Debated between the Huntsman, Fieldmaster, and the Alox Farmer X. Despite being twice the price, I decided on the Farmer X. No regrets at all! It feels much more solid than the plastic handled versions. The spring bars are stronger, some of the tools are beefier, and the aluminum scales are excellent. It has almost all the tools I can use in 80% of situations and just disappears in a pocket. If I need more then I reach for my Leatherman Surge… These knives and the quality haven’t really changed in the past 30 years – they are just as I remember. It’ll probably outlast me and I’ll pass it on when the time comes.

As mentioned, this was a gift and the person receiving it was very happy to receive it and use it multiple times in his daily life of farming and taxidermy and general here and there home repairs on the spot when something is seen loose etc. it can be remedied at that point without heading to the shop for tools and returning..Quality of the tool must not be overlooked either, it is first class according to the recipient of it..

The media could not be loaded. This is an excellent pocket knife for man or woman. It is very well made and has a variety of tools and functions to assist in urban life or on the trail. I can’t see anyone being disappointed with this knife. It is as gorgeous as it is functional. It is very slightly larger than many other Swiss Army Knives and has tighter backsprings and a thicker knife blade and screwdriver. It is absolutely stout. I put a suspension clip on mine so it doesn’t fall to the bottom of the pocket. My usual edc is the Handyman model which has more tools on it, but I am a bit of an SAK collector so I had to have an Alox in my stable. If they ever were to make the Handyman with the aluminum Alox scales, that would be the perfect pocket knife, in my opinion. Don’t hesitate on this one, I give it a strong buy. If you are gifting it know there is a space for engraving if you desire. You won’t go wrong with this pocket knife.
