The various tools of a Swiss Army Knife are manufactured from high-quality steel with precisely tuned features that are essential for the particular application. The steel is tempered, annealed and polished to achieve the necessary hardness and provide optimum resistance to corrosion. Every knife embodies our four cornerstones: quality, functionality, innovation and iconic design.
The Swiss Army Knife is the ultimate multi-tool. Whether you need a magnifying glass to read fine print or a metal saw to cut through iron, the Swiss Army knife has your back. In addition to a blade, these gadgets include various implements such as screwdrivers, bottle openers, and scissors.
Innovation is our tradition and has been ever since we patented the first Swiss Army Knife in 1897. Here in the Swiss Knife Valley, we take lumps of molten steel and blend with generations of experience to forge knives which are loved all over the world. As we continue to find new ways to improve our knives we also strive to apply better solutions that meet new requirements and our customers unarticulated needs.
In 1891 Karl Elsener, the owner of Victorinox, was under contract by the Swiss Army to produce a folding pocket knife to be suitable for use by soldiers for opening canned food and disassembling the Swiss service rifle. Elsener invented a special spring mechanism allowing him to attach the tools on both sides of the handle, using the same spring to hold the tools in place. This innovative design meant Elsener could put twice as many features on the knife, which included a blade, a second smaller cutting blade, reamer, can-opener, screwdriver, corkscrew, and wood fiber grips. The Swiss Army Knife is the most recognizable icon of utility and smart design, and the knives are still made exclusively in only two factories in Switzerland.

For the standalone clippers, not any of the knife models with combined clippers.Aside from the compactness, I really like these clippers for one reason in particular, but some may not appreciate it as I do. There are some ergonomic challenges I will discuss.I bought these specifically for an emergency kit, just for the tiny amount of space they save over traditional clippers. The size difference really is minuscule, but still enough for me to invest. After using them a bit though, I think they might become my standard type of clippers. The cutting jaws are actually quite shallow, and they’re also at more of a vertical angle than you usually see on trimmers. If you tend to grow your nails out pretty long before cutting them, then you may need to do multiple passes to fully cut them down. For me though, this is perfect because I usually overtrim my nails. The shallow depth and the basically 90° angle of the jaws makes it actually quite a challenge for me to overtrim, but isn’t such a significant difference that I find them inefficient at cutting down my nails. I don’t find myself taking two passes like I’d mentioned before, because I don’t grow out my nails. So that’s the reason I like these so much, but there are problems.I will say, they are just slightly awkward to hold, and I haven’t decided what grip works best for me yet. Sometimes I hold them right-side up with my thumb on the cutting lever, index finger tucked under the body, and the rest of my fingers wrapped around the nail file while it’s pointed straight out. Alternatively, sometimes I hold them upside down, thumb over the big Victorinox logo on the bottom, index and middle finger over the cutting lever, and with the file at roughly a 45° angle with my remaining fingers wrapped around it almost like an awkward pistol grip. The file is rivited into the body, but it swivels loosely, so it’s difficult to find the best way of positioning it to fit your ergonomic tastes.Closing it is also slightly awkward, but less so. You need to lower the cutting lever until the spring bar is fully compressed, and then the actual cutting lever begins to bend downward; only then should you close the file on top of it. Failure to do this will cause you to scrape the file against the flathead tip of the cutting lever, and over time I imagine this will compromise the effectiveness of the file and aesthetically harm the cutting arm by scratching it up. It really isn’t too difficult to close, just know that there is a proper procedure in closing it.The file itself seems fine; big enough surface area and sufficiently abbrasive as really any file would be.The flathead screwdriver on the end of the file, is slightly rounded, so it won’t cut into your hand at all. I have yet to use this as a screwdriver, but I doubt rounding the edges will have any major impact on its effectiveness. What will have an impact is that there’s really no great way to hold these for use of the screwdriver, which is why I haven’t used it that way. The addition is appreciated for emergency use since it doesn’t really harm the functionality of the clippers and slightly cuts down weight, but it’s not something I expect I’ll ever use.The whole thing is rivited and pressed together, so if for some reason you wanted to field-strip your nail clippers, there’s really no good way of doing that. They’re more mechanically sophisticated than most nail clippers (naturally, being Swiss) but I don’t see any concerning failure points that would warrant any future maintenance. They include a little plastic (vinyl?) Pouch to keep it from scraping or getting scraped by your other belongings. The outside feels similar to the material that some bank-provided checkbooks are made of, nothing fancy but sufficient. The inside lining is a different soft plastic that I don’t recognize; feels slightly higher end than the outside, with an almost fabric-like texture that I may have seen in some cheap pen or eyeglass pouches.I have yet to use the little keyring loop. It’s small, but seems sturdy enough to handle the force of your clippers swinging around. I’d recommend leaving your clippers inside the pouch if you intend to hang it from your keys, because they’re under spring tension when closed and can unexpectedly pop open if you’re not careful.I don’t think this is for everyone. It really does fit nicely in a survival tin or what have you. It does cut nicely, or at least in a way that I like. The file’s perfectly good, but not an unusual feature, and it really gets in the way most of the time. The screwdriver is a nice thought, not very useful in my opinion, but it seems on-brand for Victorinox to fit little things in that will almost never be useful except for that one time where it actually is useful.

While the Victorinox fingernail clipper/file is very sharp, and the file is excellent, there are some issues:1) the clipper jaws do not open very wide; 2) the nail file hangs out loosely while you use the clippers, making the unit a bit awkward to handle; 3) there is no curved pointed nib for cleaning underneath your nails; and 4) the unit can easily catch on something in your pocket causing it to spring open (and while they do include a plastic sheath to hold the unit so that doesn’t happen, that sheath will eventually wear out, and you’ll need to make something to hold the unit, possibly with duct tape…). So, while I really wanted to give this nail clipper a strong thumbs up, because…well, it’s from a company I respect…, I can’t. The best I can give it is 3 stars. Trim, Revlon, even Walgreens and RiteAid have cheap, very effective nail clippers that have wider-opening jaws, and a decent fingernail cleaner tip, but a crummy tiny file, a narrow lever that’s difficult to hold, and can come loose in your pocket. So the only things the Victorinox unit has over them, really, is a better longer nail file, a thinner profile, and a slightly sharper clipper blade.

I bought these clippers for my husband and sons several years ago. My husband had his on a key ring that he lost, so he asked for a replacement because he liked the clippers so much. These are very flat for keeping in a pocket and stay sharp for easy clipping. Very good quality and highly recommended!

Pretty much the title. The tool fits well in the pocket, carries well, but is lacking with the strength to cut thicker nails.

The back of the blister package it came in said it’s a super quality nail-clipper with 2 other functions. Took me a while to figure out the flat head screw driver at the end of the nail file and the edge could be used as a letter opener. Overall happy that it fit nicely on my keychain.

I got these as an add in for my backpacking first aid kit. They are very compact and probably as light as I would want a set of fingernail clippers to be.I just used them for the first time. They worked well. I won’t say they are the most comfortable clippers I own, but I bought them because of their compact design. On my scale, they weigh 5.5 oz or 17 grams. They cut my nails adequately and the file on them is also great for smoothing out any rough edges.I do wish they had a little more curve. They are a little straighter than my preferred nail clippers, but the straighter edge might be better for toes?

Is different. Always carried clippers in my coin pocket and these are comfortable for that. They do a nice job for nail trimming, but the handles will flex a lot on harder things.I normally carried Revlon clippers before this pair and I use them outside of their intended purpose.

Best nail clippers I have every gotten. I have one on my key ring and one at home for when they are needed.

Clippers work well, the tip is not quite as rounded as more traditional clippers so may take a little adjusting to get a smooth cut. Really like the way it lays flat so makes for a great travel pair. The nail file is what keeps the clippers closed so when open hangs off the end which can be a little annoying when you’re trying to use them.
