While the locks aren’t going to stop a determined thief, they provide peace of mind while leaving your vehicle unattended. Don’t rely on them for foolproof security, but they’re fine while you leave your bike on the rack in a parking lot while you get a pizza after a ride.

Great product! I bought this because I have two Thule components with a total of six lock cylinders, and wanted them keyed to one key. My only challenge was the original lock cylinders on Thule Motion XT. The first thing to do is to insert the original cargo box key and turn it towards the unlock position (about 30 degrees from the lock position). You can’t fully unlock it since this key is locked in when in this position. After this, you can insert the universal key, tap, and wiggle; eventually, it will slide out enough to get a grip on it to remove it altogether. The rest is self-explanatory. I love having all the same key and extra keys now.

These products are so overpriced. Unless you buy an eight pack it’s basically highway robbery. Thule should be embarrassed. I understand selling these separately from your other products because you want one key to match multiple locks. However there is such a discrepancy in price depending on how many locks you buy it just shows that you’re not paying for quality you’re paying more because they can charge you more.

Replaces the plastic nuts (4) in the carrier for security of the cargo basket. Easy to install using the dummy key, which is provided.Overpriced, I think, but is the only product that I know of that works this way.

My Thule Kayak carrier is 1st rate quality and workmanship. Considering the price, it should have shipped standard with locks. The pair of locks I ordered, came with 2 keys and a flat, silver blank key; no instructions. I thought the silver blank key was in case a key needed to be made. By chance, while installing a lock, I inserted it into a lock and then the lock easily inserted and seated itself into the barrel! I also used the rectangular end to loosen and remove the black plug from the lock barrel. a small sheet of paper with 3 or 4 pictures would have sufficed for installation instructions. Thule, please hire a talented kid to draw a few simple pictures showing how to remove and install the locks if you will not sell your carriers with the locks installed.

Fits my Thule Canyon XT cargo basket. Easy install, but it did take a little finesse to get a couple of them to fit. No biggie though, just be patient they do fit once installed. Purchased a set of four with one key for all, which is very convenient. Now if a thief really wanted your cargo basket this lock is really only a deterrent. Let’s face it if a thief wanted your cargo basket & had the knowledge to do so it’s going to happen. Nothing is 100% secure. With that said it does give me some piece of mind having these locks on my cargo basket. It is a deterrent.

Ordered these from here as the they were out of stock on the vendor’s website. Shipping was fast and installation was quick and easy. 1 key for 4 locks that replaces the original turn locks that came with the rack and makes them secure and theft proof.

After you have spent $500+ to install racks, it only makes sense to protect them. The thule locks fit perfectly, as you would expect and install just as easily. I lube the locks with some dry graphite in the fall and have never had any problem with their operation.

The last thing I need is to have my Thule bars walk away from me. These locks give me the freedom to have my Thule bars on top of my car for an entire trip. They also work on my bike rack attachment using the same key. If you have already spent a fortune on a Thule setup, like I have, this addition is a no brainer!

Simple 5 min installation. But it is a total rip-off that Thule does not include the locks and keys.

Of note: There were no instructions. Included silver “blank” key is used to set the locks into a insert/remove mode by lowering the largest set pin on the lock.note2: The two keys for the locks in this kit are better made than the keys that came with my Thule Aero/Evo crossbars.Used on Outback Wilderness: I have Thule Aero crossbars (which are actually Evo bars but for whatever reason Thule and Subaru call them Aero). They came with their own locks. I also installed a Thule Canyon XT cargo basket on top of the bars and this did not come with keylocks, rather plastic twist pins in the lock receivers. Buying a set of 8 of these locks allowed me to replace all 4 bar locks and all 4 basket locks, and they are now keyed to the same key.

cost too much, but it works

  24. JD (verified owner)

I paid a lot for my crossbars, I guess it’s worth the price to protect them. These locks were extremely easy to install. They appear to work just fine. I’m not so sure though if a seasoned thief still couldn’t get it if he wanted to. I guess only time will tell. These locks don’t come with the crossbars. I think for the price you pay for the crossbars the locks should’ve been included. You’ll read many other reviews that say the same thing.I bought the eight pack. It’s only a couple more bucks than a six pack. However I didn’t eat eight. The other four will go for the cargo basket I bought for the top of my jeep. It didn’t come with locks either.

Got it with a very good price. Can‘t complain a thing

They really need to include better instructions. Once I figured out how to install them (with the help of a YouTube video), it was a snap. Gives added peace of mind knowing that someone can’t walk over and steal my rack.

  28. Denise M (verified owner)

The product arrived quickly and was easy to install on my new Thule Kayak Rack. I feel so much better knowing that my racks are secure and I don’t have to worry about them getting taken when my truck is out of my sight. Definately recommend.

  29. R.D.S (verified owner)

Easy to install if you do your research. Thule’s instructions are vague. YT has great videos of other users showing the installation.

I purchased a Thule T2 Classic trailer hitch bike rack that did not come with locks on the tire lock bars so I don’t have to use an alternative method to secure the bike/s while in store or restaurant. Swapped out the cylinder of the locking pin that came with the rack so that they are all use the same key. Would have been nice to buy cylinders that matched the locking pin. Now, I have no use for that one.
