After using this tape for my recent head unit install, I can’t go back to using electric tape again. Although electric tape can be useful in many automotive applications, I have found it certain applications — such as wrapping wires under the engine bay — it gets very gooey easily and is a pain in the you know what to undo. This Tesa tape is very heat resistant (150 C or 302 F) and wrapped around itself very easily w/ no gooey mess left behind. This tape has been very useful when wrapping the amplifier power wire under the engine bay by that I ran from the + battery terminal post to the amplifier in the vehicle. Moreover, it give the installation a professional look. I have posted some pictures of my usage of this product and hope it helps give an idea of the possibilities of this tape.** Note **There are different models of Tesa tape so make sure to to get the one that fits your usage. For example, if you wanted to predominantly use this under your engine bay, then the “Tesa 51026 or 51036” would be great as they are heat resistant up too 302 F. But if you mainly want to use this in cooler temperatures — such as around the home or the passenger area of a vehicle — then the “Tesa 51608 or 51606” (which are cheaper) would more than suffice as they are heat resistant up too 221 F.

This is an excellent, high quality tape for wrapping harnesses and wires INSIDE the passenger compartment of a car NOT the engine bay. Use in an engine bay for harness wrapping is contrary to the manufacturers specified main application. This tape is specifically designed for use INSIDE the passenger compartment to provide flexibility and noise damping. For example, wrapping wires and harnesses that come in contact with metal or plastic areas that can cause rattles. This tape uses a rubber based adhesive with a temperature ceiling of 105 degrees C or 221 degrees F.Older and high performance car’s engine compartments can easily exceed this temperature. The rubber based adhesive can gum up and the ends of the tape will flag.If you are looking for tape that is specifically designed for operation within a high temperature automotive environment then look for tesa 51026 or 51036. Both use acrylic based adhesives with high abrasion and temperature resistance up to150 degrees C or 302 degrees F and no flagging. You can order these tapes on Amazon. The information below is from the manufacturer’s specification sheets.Product Featurestesa® 51608 is the universal tape for wire harness bundling in the passenger compartment. TESA Tape is the bomb! Very high quality and easy to use.The tape is strong but rips with appropriate force, and rips cleanly, not leaving side strings like some other threaded tapes. The adhesive is aggressive but not obnoxious. It clings to the wires or loom with authority, but is able to be removed and repositioned if done so in a timely manner. Also, when it (inevitably) sticks adhesive surface to adhesive surface, it can be pulled apart with relative ease, and still used. The rich dark black color and cloth texture scream quality, and a BIG bonus for us northerners is the cushioning, sound deadening effect of the cloth (unwrapped wires, or wires wrapped in electrical tape tend to rattle inside the dashboard when the temperatures are below freezing).

As a mobile DJ, I am constantly looking for ways to clean up my wiring and set up. In the past, I have used Gaffer Tape or Electrical tape to make my own “snakes”. A “Snake” is when you consolidate the wires needed for a particular piece of equipment (power cable, and speaker cable, etc). I would use the tape to create ONE cable run instead of two separate runs. Problem was – the electrical & gaffer table would eventually come undone and leave a messy residue on the very expensive cables. I found myself re-taping them several times a year.Out of frustration, I searched for a new option. I don’t remember how… but this particular Tape came up in the search. So far – so good! I would recommend using scissors or a razor blade to neatly cut the tape. Great Product.

Bought a used 2015 BMW X-5 and had all kind of rattling from the dual tailgate. Tailgate opens in the middle, half of the opening and what shoots up is the window section. Metal body section of tailgate has its own handle to drop the deck down. I used the Tesa tape to wrap around the latch connectors on the body to catch the tailgate deck and then wrapped some tape around the latch connector on the window section where it connects to the deck section. Noise gone. Seems the only other adjustment that can be made is moving the connectors on the frame backwards and tightening them down. I didn’t want to mess with that and the tape worked well. Sticks to itself very well.

This is the same stuff that is used in factories for wire looms. I’ve used this several times in my german cars when re-wrapping wire looms. It looks like factory and sticks soo much better than normal 3M super 88. I can’t see any reason why you’d use anything else. This is one of those things I wished I knew about years before I started using it.

I am adding ambient lighting to my RCF since Lexus decided to remove it for my model year.. While splicing into the wires I wanted everything to match with the factory harness. I bought this tape. It’s so much nicer than normal electrical tape. In my picture the harness to the right with the white connector is what I added. If you didn’t know, you’d think that came from the factory like that. Which is exactly the look I’m going for.I like this stuff a lot! Seems to stick to itself just like the OEM felt tape. Matches, and looks good! Should have zero issues with this stuff and or anyone thinking this was some back yard install…

Second roll I’ve bought! I’m rewiring a lot of stuff on a motorcycle and removing all the hard and soft plastic wire sleeves to repair broken wires and wrap in abrasion-resistant fabric split loom and have used this tape any place possible to close the split loom or wrap smaller wires in. It allows the split loom to maintain its flexibility. No gooey mess to deal with when it’s warm. It’s about impossible to get apart once stuck to itself. I actually found using a small cloth seam ripper and running it just under the tape cuts right through and no risk to wires below like if using a razor. For any wiring in areas exposed to direct rain/sun, I use the same mesh loom except it’s not split loom and heat shrink the ends to wiring. Awesome tape for its intended purpose.

Its good it does stick well to itself and when you remove it off it does not leave a sticky residue unlike electric tape. The fibers are also falling off not that bad. It does not stick well after it was removed so always get a new strip. It is so hard to cut by hand sometimes it works and it does not. Scissors are also hard to use for cutting this. But overall better than electric tape
