The SRAM RED22 chain is the missing link to complete your new SRAM 11 speed drivetrain. Optimized for use with SRAM 11-speed products.
SRAM RED 22. When SRAM re-introduced SRAM RED in 2012 there was simply nothing more SRAM could add to make it better. SRAM RED was redesigned throughout, with enhancements SRAM have spent the past year touting and athletes proving. It was loaded with features and benefits that matched the needs of professionals: fast, light, aerodynamic, ergonomic.
Incremental enhancements. Perpetual improvements. When advancements are continuously made to every attribute of every component, the result is overall performance that is simply second to none. And to real cycling enthusiasts, there is nothing more gratifying then achieving the ultimate ride. And the best part is SRAM just keep making it better.
This is what SRAM is all about. Sure, a casual rider will appreciate solid performance, reliability, dependability and all the standard qualities one would expect. But it’s the riders who live and breathe bicycles who love SRAM most because bicycles are what SRAM love, too.
Narrow minded yet forward thinking.
Bike components are all SRAM do – which is why do them so well. SRAM, LLC began with the goal of creating one of the best shifting system and improved the cycling world with the introduction of grip shift.

This replaced the Force22 (PC-1170) chain that came with my full Force22 group after ~5k miles. I cannot believe how completely silent this new chain is—I think it’s quieter than the first time I rode the group when I got my bike! All I can hear now are my tires gripping the road. With everything tuned correctly it shifts like butter and is just completely silent (did I mention that already?). Totally worth the $10 over the Force level chain. The quick link can be tricky to both remove and install, but no big deal. I removed two full links to fit my 53/39, 11-28 drivetrain.

I’ll give it 5 stars for shifting and quietness. Was installed on my new SRAM eTap drivetrain. I have found that with eTap there is a tendency to shift more frequently and there is less reason to soft pedal when shifting. This may lead to wearing out a chain a little faster than normal especially if you live in the mountains which I do. The first chain wore out at about 1500 miles. Most claim this is normal but when I had SRAM 10 drivetrain I usually got a litte more milage. Over all it’s a good upgrade over 10 speed and the price here is as good as you are going to get.

I bought this to upgrade to an 11-speed drivetrain. It’s being used on a 10-speed chain ring, which doesn’t seem to slow it down. Fortunately, I checked out the installation instructions online. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have know about making sure the removable link’s arrow needed to point at the direction of chain travel. This might be in the included instructions, but I’m putting it out there as a reminder.

Installed on a force 22 groupo that used to have a KMC chain on it, but was starting to wear after 4K miles. Now it shifts better than it ever did with this new chain. The only minor issue is that darn cosmoline coating on it – before you wipe it down & lube it up, it’s more like a strip of fly paper than a bike chain.

Sram chains are well designed, reliable and easy to remove and install because of the “flow link”. It is best to have the chain tool that sets and releases this link. Removal and installation become a breeze. Sram has generally become the standard to follow. At “73”, I have been installing bicycle chains for at least 60 years. Sram offers many selections in materials, designs and price. Pick one-you can’t go wrong.

The SRAM Red 22 is the only chain I use on my Madone and Domane SLR bikes. It is reliable and durable, providing quick and uniform shifting with my etap systems.
