The XX1 chain represents the latest breakthrough in a long line of precise, light weight chains from SRAM. Its designed to deliver the greatest strength and reliability to a drivetrain that doesnt have to make compromises for front shifts.
When SRAM re-introduced SRAM RED in 2012 there was simply nothing more SRAM could add to make it better. SRAM RED was redesigned throughout, with enhancements SRAM have spent the past year touting and athletes proving. It was loaded with features and benefits that matched the needs of professionals: fast, light, aerodynamic, ergonomic, near-silent and of course trim-less with Yaw technology.
Adding two more gears to that combination was arguably the only improvement required. The added benefit is that now, without adding weight, SRAM maintain a system that shifts highly fast upfront and with the smoother gear transitions in back. And the system gives you twenty-two gears. No compromise and no trim, what SRAM’re calling True 22, in any gear combination. Welcome to SRAM RED 22.
Incremental enhancements. Perpetual improvements. When advancements are continuously made to every attribute of every component, the result is overall performance that is simply second to none. And to real cycling enthusiasts, there is nothing more gratifying then achieving the ultimate ride. And the best part is SRAM just keep making it better.
This is what SRAM is all about. Sure, a casual rider will appreciate solid performance, reliability, dependability and all the standard qualities one would expect. But it’s the riders who live and breathe bicycles who love SRAM most because bicycles are what SRAM love, too.
Narrow minded yet forward thinking.
Bike components are all SRAM do – which is why do them so well. SRAM, LLC began with the goal of creating one of the best shifting system and improved the cycling world with the introduction of grip shift.

The chain pictured is not what is being sold. I ordered this chain to to replace the original on my XX1 setup (same as pictured), but the one I received has solid plates instead of the slotted, lighter weight outer plates in the picture.Edit: The seller has updated the photo to be accurate. Also, as the seller’s response indicates, SRAM has not updated this chain to have solid plates. After going through 4 “XX1” model chains, the first two were slotted and the most recent two are not. As always, SRAM makes a great chain and the 11 speed cross chain capability and power link system is superb. I run this chain on my XX1 mountain bike, 1×10 cross bike, and my Single Speed mountain bike with great results.

I bought this chain thinking I needed to change out my 6 month old XX1 chain. The XX1 drive train components are very expensive and so buying a new chain is better than wearing out the cassette and chain ring. After taking off the old chain and shortening the new chain to the same length, I hung both chains on a measuring device.I was expecting to see some chain stretch on the older chain.I could not see any difference in the lengths of both chains. So the old chain was still good to go as a spare.I used the new chain anyway and have a spare for backup. They are a bit pricey but the quality is very good on these chains

This chain is far superior than most on the market. I ride my mountain bike hard and put a lot of stress on my drivetrain. Lots of start and stop type riding through technical areas. I also weigh 225lbs so I’m no flyweight. I only started using this chain because I got a XX1 system in 2012. I figured I would change to a cheaper 11 speed chain once my original XX1 chain wore out, but this chain lasted so long that it justified the price. The most I’ve ever gotten from a 10 speed chain was 50 hours of use. I’m now on my 5th XX1 chain and each of them lasted 82+ hours of use before wearing out. My longest running XX1 chain went 87 hours. For someone like me, that is a long time. In addition, I’ve continually had consistent results which shows SRAM is doing well with their quality control on these chains. I see now that this chain has dropped in price to $42. That’s a steal. For hours of riding per dollar spent on a chain, this has been the best one for me by far.

I love biking and used Shimano XTR for 20 years b/c it’s really high quality, durable and well-engineered equipment for jamming cross country on your mountain bike. Then came SRAM components, like XX1.SRAM really just bought a bunch of companies like RockShox, Avid, Truvativ, Zipp, Quarq power meters and Sachs parts. Not sure about their level of engineering or creativity but they gather some excellent companies into one organization that offers some of the best biking components.Anyhow, this SRAM Chain goes on my XXI Carbon fiber cranks and chain ring and rear SRAM Cassette for a spectacular drive train that helps me squash my competitors. (#9 in Indiana in 2015)The design of this chain and SRAM chain rings are such that I’ve never had my chain drop unexpectedly while riding, which was a serious problem with my Shimano XTR setup.Really love my SRAM gear.Try one of their drive trains. You’ll love it too.

The only chain I run on my XX1 setup. I used used KMC chains twice when I didn’t have this in hand, and both times they snapped under a high torque downstroke which sent me over the bars. I only trust the SRAM product now. Never failed.

Went on great and hasn’t dropped after 2 races! Light and durable for a great price. Highly recommend!

Lightweight. Wears out rather quickly even with consistent cleaning and lubrication.

Installed the new chain. Measured stretch. PC x1 normally is 25%. This one, PC xx1, measured 50%. That’s not good for the drivetrain. I’d expect less 25% stretch out of the box. A SRAM eagle xo 12 speed chain measured less than 25% when new. That chain also has holo pins. I am disappointed. Given that the chain will need to be replace at 75% wear, I’m hoping it will wear less quickly because of the hardened pin surface.

Shifts smoothly

I’ve ordered three of these chains and used only one of them, because the usual chain stretch isn’t there. The reviews and testing of this chain speaks to its longevity. Long live 11 speed!
