these are a great tool. i use Tasmota instead of the native app, but I have 4 of these installed in light boxes in my house and havent had a single problem. These are not a toy. Electricity can seriously ruin your day so know what you are doing or ask someone who does. although once these are installed correctly they are 5 star all the way.

What can I say? If you’re buying this you probably already know this is the most amazing home automation device available (except perhaps for the Shelly 2.5). One huge advantage of this device is that it can run on 12V DC, which means you can make low-voltage HA switches, sensors, etc that run off a small switch-mode power supply instead of line voltage.

I ordered two non-UL last Feb for practice and proof of concept. That worked pretty well. Now I ordered the 4-pack UL and installed 3 already in 3 live switches. So far so good. I am a little concerned about them getting hot because they are really jammed in the box but it has been 2 weeks and so far so good. I will keep you posted.

A great way to add “seamless” smart control of existing lights, using existing switches. In my case, I used it for a bathroom fan, to add an auto-timeout shutoff feature. Love the “cloudless” mode, where it doesn’t talk outside my home network. I’ve connected it to HomeAssistant, via MQTT. The only issue is the screw connections are _very_ close together – be sure to trim your wires to the right length, and get them completely seated, so the insulation is inside the case. May want to solder-tin stranded wire, to be sure you don’t have a sneaky single strand sneak out and short.

Updated the firmware to use with HomeKit. Has been rock solid as my garage door switch.

Almost a year now – works flowless. I have them locally integrated with Home Assistant which was easy. I am sure it also works with Hubitat or SmartThings or any other customizable home automation hub. Of course you can also use it via online host as well through Shelly. I love the web interface especially the fact you can have a backup wifi network. The hardware and the software design is really thoughtful.

These are wonderful devices to embed in your house if you don’t want to change your switches and lights out. They are invisible but give full control functionality for lighting circuits. They do require basic electrical skills as well as reasonable skill with home control systems to set up. Not for the beginner, but the absolute best solution out there for renovating existing systems.

Here’s what you need to know about these Shelly devices after having tried a half dozen Shelly 1 devices, two Shelly Flood devices, and two Shelly H&T devices. The manufacturer (whether ordering directly from them, or through Amazon) often ship these things with firmware that is so old that the devices don’t work with their app. They are very temperamental to get connected, updated, and working properly when this happens. Every time I order one, I feel like I’m rolling the dice. Setup of a single Shelly sensor or switch could take 10 minutes, or it could take two hours. I never know. Once they are working, they do a good job. But their app is embarrassingly bad. I only keep buying Shelly devices because I’m already committed to so many of them and don’t feel like learning a new system.

They work, are the only Shelly relays you can use for low voltage projects. But without current protection and thermal temperature protection I can’t keep these in my house! For $1 more I had to use the safer Shelly 1PM that offers those safety protections, saving a dollar is NOT worth the safety of your house and family.

As useful as these products could be, they don’t work with 12 gauge wire, which the vast majority of 20 amp circuits in the United States are wired with.
