I was trying to find the very well engineered Petzl headlight I bought 6 years ago. This is not it. The old one had a battery indicator, main switch, side touch area to adjust the output, water proof,,,,,,. This thing feels like a china special. Looks cool, is light weight but cheap. One button that is not very user friendly, not waterproof, 3 bats instead of 4 for shorter life, and a flimsy casing. It does have a nice strap, but that is the last thing I look for when buying a light.

Most headlights have such terrible optical quality that it is hard to see what you are looking at, even if they are beastly bright, giving a very “Blair Witch” effect on night hikes. This one is rated as among the best in that regard, and it appears to be very good. The low setting is very low and so the colors are dim because the human eye needs a certain level of brightness to see colors well. However it is perfect for around camp and lasts a whopping 120 hours. The medium and high are great, the medium is what you will probably hike with and lasts 12 hours, the high lasts 2 hours. The red light works fine, nothing special but does the job.

My wife & I both do early morning runs….in the dark most days. We were looking for a light weight , bright headlamp and…………THIS IS IT ! We will be buying the battery pack that you can recharge . The tilt feature is nice and makes it perfection for walking or running in darkness, You forget you even have it on. If you’ve been looking, then STOP ,THIS IS THE ONE you need.

I bought this headlamp a year ago and loved it (came with the rechargeable battery); however, I reordered it (same previous order mind you) through Amazon and got the headlamp but no rechargeable battery. It’s a good headlamp, but not $50 good.

Band is feeling nice on your forehead. The light is strong… I have not run out batteries yet. Illuminates well even when you ride a bike on the road at night. It feels that there is not much water resistance to it… there is a gap when it closes. I did not research it to make sure it’s water proof for my use case. Do check on that if you need water resistance. Good value for money though.

This headlamp fits well, is easy to adjust, and provides plenty of light for whatever you need it for. I’ve set up tents at night with it, skied the Mitchell Trail Loop on Tennessee Pass in Colorado at night with it, as well as numerous night trail hikes. The run time is also excellent–it has never left me “in the dark”. I highly recommend this headlamp!

Spent extra on this item hoping it would last for years. Didn’t make it even one year. Petzl service is making it difficult. Have to send in on my dime and they may or may not stand by the warranty. Will see.

My only concern is that the battery compartment latch may not last long enough. I use it in high brightness mode and it drains the batteries in a matter of minutes so battery changes are frequent and the locking latch doesn’t inspire confidence for longevity. Besides that it’s a high quality headlamp.
