Magura has taken motorcycle racing’s proven 4-pistion technology and applied it to their MT5 Next Disc Brake, creating an absolute maximum of braking force. No matter how difficult the trail terrain, Magura’s 4-pstion technology and novel new ergonomics in the brake lever deliver a performance package that’s sure to boost riding confidence. The aluminum, 2-finger brake levers are ergonomically designed for comfort, allowing easy and accurate application of braking power, even during long braking actions. New flip-flop lever design allows installation on either side of the bar and Shift Mix lever clamps work with SRAM Triggers. Carbotecture technology in the brake handle housing keeps the MT5’s weight down to a minimum and provides optimal braking performance. magnetiXchange magnetic pistons fit perfectly into the brake caliper, guaranteeing quick and easy pad replacement. It also has an improved weight ratio performance, easy bleed technology and uses long life Royal Blood mineral oil. The MT5 is perfect for downhill, enduro, all-mountain/trail, ebikes and even S-Pedelecs (e-bikes up to 28 miles per hour).

Awesome awesome brakes, put the stock Shimanos on my Tracer 275 to shame! Not only great stopping power for a Clyde like me, but the modulation is amazing. the feel is so good, I can literally use the front brake only on many descents, without worries of endo’ing. Haven’t ridden a bike park yet, but expecting them to handle heat MUCH better than the Shimanos, which always had brake fade on long runs for me. Make sure to order a bleed kit when you get these, they use a different kit & oil. Lastly, big props to Growler Bikes! Their customer service is awesome.

I bought these to replace my OEM single caliper Shimano brakes that came on my 2019 Intense Tracer. Pretty much perfect. Incredible stoping power compared to stock. They look great and the price was so affordable. I went with a 203 front rotor and matched it with a bracket and Magura rotors. Had the shop set it up and heard nothing but good things about these brakes. I would buy them again knowing how they handle now.

Absolutely love these. Threw them on my SE Fast Ripper. I like to wheelie a lot and the modulation u get from 4 calipers is unreal. I had shimano XT which had the typical on/off feel. Hated them.

Amazing brakes for an amazing price. They were a pain to bleed. Once they are bled they are awesome. Great stopping power and modulation.

I do NOT recommend them for a MTB, especially if you deviate from main bike tracks and alone.I had them for a month when they suddenly stopped working 2 min after a light bike drop.I could not make a 100 deg technical curve and dropped my MTB. Speed was less than 5kph. When I launched again the front brakes felt wrong and in about two min stopped working completely. I had to get down the mountain using only the rear brake. Not fun at all.Investigating back at home it seemed the master cylinder failed.Sent e-mail to Magura US and, so far, I am promptly ignored.Sent another to Magura DE and got an immediate auto reply that, due to high load, pandemics, and what not, somebody may read my message at some point… wowI am past the Amazon return window.Out of frustration I took out the master cylinder of 17yo Shimano br-m454, and coupled it with the mt5 calipers. And boy oh boy… what a match. Subjectively I feel a measurable increase in stopping power over the origin

More difficult than necessary to bleed compared to Shimano brakes. Needs a bleed nipple.Tip: back off on the reach adjustment completely when bleeding the brakes. If the reach adjustment is putting any pressure whatsoever on the master cylinder, no fluid can be pushed through the system from the bleed port.Performance and feel is great.

Needed a replacement for my xt brakes. Front and back hose length the same. Easy to se up, easy to get embedded. Love the feel and control of these. Tons of accessories available to change the feel and look as well.

Wish they came with extra pair of brake pads for how much you spend but very good quality

Threads on lever came messed up all I did was crack it loose with a wrench didn’t take much then unscrewed it by hand noticed a piece of the thread come out on the nut said no Biggy maybe coating and when I tried threading it in once again by HAND after taking everything apart on my bike in order to route the line correct I noticed the thread start to go in sideways I said no way took it out re-centered it about 3 times same thing and more pieces of the thread came out I’m just so upset all the time I took to take apart my bike and now it’ll stay in pieces and I’ll have to use a different method to get to work

When the front MT6 on my XC bike went out, I thought I’d try out a 4-piston and loved the Magura modulation but didn’t have the budget for something higher-end like the MT7. I basically made the original MT Trail setup. As other reviewers have pointed out, the lever body is plastic. Very fancy plastic, if the marketing is to be believed, but plastic. I don’t feel unsafe with them, but I wouldn’t be blown away if one broke off the bars in a nasty crash. Pay more if you need something nicer.BUT! They’re an affordable entrypoint to really powerful brakes with great modulation and easy servicing (learn the vacuum syringe technique). If I were doing a budget trail build, it would definitely come with a pair of these.
