Beautiful handwriting is an expression of personality and individuality. Now there is the ideal writing instrument – the LAMY joy AL, a fountain pen that inspires beautiful, creative writing. Made of black shiny plastic. Ergonomic grip section and flexible clip of spring brass wire. Cartridge filling system with ink cartridge (can be modified for use with converter Z 24 -not included).

One cannot help but rejoice over the smooth flowing ink and crisp calligraphy lines from the LAMY Joy Calligraphy fountain pen. It is easy to refill with ink cartridges and its unique fountain pen design allows for continuous ink flow. 1.1, 1.5, and 1.9 mm nib widths are available.

This pen is made of shiny black plastic, and features an ergonomic grip and flexible spring brass wire clip. A variety of ink cartridges or a LAMY converter can be used. Installing ink cartridges is easy—simply insert the cartridge into the pen nib section (no need to push completely), then twist the pen barrel onto the nib section. Attaching the barrel automatically punctures and installs the ink cartridge.

This pen includes one blue LAMY T10 cartridge.

Note: This pen may come with ink residue in the nib from being dip tested by LAMY at the factory. As with all new fountain pens, we recommend giving your pen a good cleaning before you use it.

Wonderful in every way. I cannot decide whether the glossy black Lamy Joy or the matte Lamy Joy AL is my favorite pen of all time. The triangular contoured grip, extended length, and balance of these pens are just perfect for me, especially with the 1.1 italic nib. Now that I am accustomed to these I find that my regular Lamy Safari pens feel too short and light.

I liked the appearance of the pen. It sits in a pen box with other various collected pens and not in my shirt pocket. The nib is sized for letter writing and note taking, though you will need to be deliberate in forming uniform script, stopping and starting to allow the ink flow to keep pace. Maybe as the nib wears the ink flow will improve.

Nice calligraphy beginner pen. Also good for daily writing.

I’m confused about sheerness as a value, that, I presume is a property of the ink. The pen has a suitably sheer little window to see the ink through, I suppose. The medium tip is a good starter width for calligraphy. It’s subtle, but noticeable. I really love the feel of this pen. I have fat fingers on a small hand and really enjoy the weight and length of the pen while writing.

I learned to write calligraphy with chisel tipped pens, so this was a wonderful find. The Lamy Joy Calligraphy pen with 1.1 mm stub brings me back to the time when I was first learning calligraphy. It’s a smooth writing experience with no hiccups, bumps, burps. The pen is so smooth, the only thing smoother would be a felt tipped pen, but why would you want to go back to that after using the lamy? I like the triangular grip, it rests more easily in my grip. The converter cartridge is super easy to use, and the pen works great with an ink that’s known to clog other fountain pens (Diamine shimmering ink). I really appreciate the ink window to let me know when it’s time to add more ink a thoughtful move on the designers part. The only thing I would want to add to this pen is a flexible nib, but I recognize I’m chasing a modern unicorn of a fountain pen. Otherwise, this is a great pen to add a little flair to your everyday writing.

Sadly, the 1.1 mm is too small to notice any thick/thin variation. Also, no converter.

A plastic modern twist on a classic desktop pen design. I never liked the ink window of Lamy pens as it only shows the top 10% of the ink cavity. The remaining 90% is between the nib tip and the ink window.Pen is all plastic and uses the same nib, feed, grip, and cap from a Lamy Safari and Vista. Only difference is the long tipped barrel which surprisingly you can cap. Using the same parts like the cap is lazy and a cost cutting design. The pen is too long for a shirt pocket so why have a clip?I purchased this pen for the 1.1 nib as at the time of purchase was cheaper than buying the nib by it self. If you like the modern long barrel this is the pen for you.

This was my second Lamy purchase. First was a fountain pen, med. nib. This is a “wow” pen for me. I thoroughly enjoy writing with the calligraphy nib. It is not so broad as to make the lines so wide as they look like calligraphy drawings but wide enough that it gives style to the lines and curlycues in ones handwriting.I am anxious to refill the cartridge with carbon ink so I can use it in my sketch book with watercolor washes. This is a fantastic, smooth writing (drawing) instrument.

It is extremely difficult and expensive trying to find a quality italic nib fountain pen, but this is a winner.
