I was reluctant to spring the $45 for this tool, but after having broken a couple of cheap $15 Harbor Freight excuses, I was stuck removing a couple of stubborn internal rings on a transmission I was rebuilding. This baby is STRONG, precision, and does the job. This is the category of tool that it is just a waste of time to buy a cheap one. Sometimes there’s no substitute for good old German engineering!

If you encounter pointed end snap rings these are the tool for you. Not the most commonly used tool in my tool box, but when I need to remove a pointed end snap ring they work flawlessly. They hold the snap ring firmly in the groove of their jaws and operate smoothly. They are nothing less than I’ve come to expect from Knipex.

They don’t take the abuse very nicely when dealing with a lock ring. If the lock ring is only a 1/16 they work well. Cant say the same about 3/16″ lock rings. The ends were deformed after I attempted several efforts to remove a thinker lock ring with these. At these Prices I feel like I should got a snap on set for $226.

Has just what you need to hold rings in place while you install, only pliers of this type on the market that I have found, they really fit the bill.

They’re a bit sticky. And working them doesn’t seem to help much. They shipped these in the fully open position though, so I’m wondering if they didn’t do damage to the spring shipping it like that. Honestly, the all metal version of the Knipex snap ring pliers feels a lot nicer in the hand then the 45 21 200 pliers. And them not wanting to shut all the way is annoying. A few pictures so you can see what I’m talking about with the red handle vs metal handle. And showing the different tips they come with

Knipex quality ?

Tip of the tool for the circlip retaining ring it’s extremely thin unfit for the job and for the price they are charging not worth at all. See my two photos and the comparison to an less expensive tool. Tip vs tip of the tool, thickness vs thickness, and expensive vs cheapest price (not sure if the metal quality is any better but it cost me 27 dollars vs 43 bucks).

Like all Knipex tools, simply fantastic. The 30 degree angle makes using them my go to snap ring plier. Expensive, but the best makes my Snapon onen seem crude.

Knipex makes a great product. There is nothing wrong with the company at all, or this item. But just know the image shown is not the image of the actual product. These are regular 45° snap ring pliers. And not intended for a “eaton” style external snap ring like they have pictured.

Typical Knipex feel, fit, and finish. Outstanding quality, and worked perfectly for my application with transmission retaining rings. These are a buy once, cry once kind of tool. Pass them along to your grandchildren.
