KNIPEX 87 01 250 Cobra Water Pump Pliers
Self locking on pipes and nuts (view larger).
No more time-consuming test-adjusting to achieve the correct size. With the Knipex Cobra water pump pliers, you can simply position the upper jaw to the workpiece, push the button, and close the lower jaw. And you’ll also be able to say goodbye to blood blisters you get with other gripping pliers. With safety its first priority, Knipex has designed a built-in pinch guard that prevents blood blisters on your hand.
The unique self-locking adjustment and induction hardened gripping teeth means that once it’s set, it stays. There’s no slipping and no need to waste strength squeezing the pliers — ensuring operator safety and more efficient work. Cobra’s unique jaw configuration can grip any shape object — flat, round, hex, or square. It also eliminates nut burring to avoid stripping pipes, nuts, or bolts. Additionally, the Cobra’s newly redesigned adjustment provides 30 percent more gripping capacity than previous models.
A simple push of the patented push button adjustment maintains jaw size setting and gives you the correct size opening every time. Just position the upper jaw to the workpiece, push the button, adjust the opening, and close the lower jaw. And it’s easily done with just one hand for trouble-free operation in confined spaces.
Cobra water pump pliers are constructed from chrome vanadium electric steel, an innovative high alloy, oil tempered steel that ensures longevity. And their thin head design helps you get into spaces other pliers can’t, so there’s no need to change tools when working in tight confines.

Sometimes we give our pliers a really hard time. We try to destroy them to find out what makes them good and long-lasting. Because we don’t want to leave anything to chance, we take a long, careful look.
The steel Knipex uses is precisely hardened with a maximum of 0.8 percent carbon and defined parts of chromium and vanadium, guaranteeing optimum cutting performance and service life — even though it requires special production and costs a bit more. But our high product demands require this.
The rivet of our high-leverage diagonal cutter also has to stand up to a lot of stress. That’s why we literally give it backup: we forge it straight onto the pliers. This means extra effort as we have to precision mill the rivet to a few hundredth millimeters. But satisfied users are worth this effort.
Knipex also looks closely at the small details. The angles, the sharpness, the hardness, the toughness of the cutting edges. The precision and smooth movement of the joint. The handle design and the finish. We keep reviewing these subjects, we research, we test, and we improve our pliers.
Headquartered in Wuppertal, Germany, Knipex is an independently-owned family enterprise steeped in tradition and specializing in the manufacturing of high-quality pliers. It all started back in 1882 when C. Gustav Putsch set up his own forge shop in Cronenberg (now a suburb of Wuppertal), and the company is now run by a fourth generation of that family. The world’s leading brand in pliers today, Knipex is focused on the performance, service life, and ergonomics of its tools in order to meet the high expectations of professional users.

With these Knipex 8701250 10-Inch Cobra Pliers, fast adjustment directly on the work piece eliminates time-consuming test adjusting of the correct opening size. Just position the upper jaw to the work piece, push button on pliers and move close the lower jaw. Once adjusted the pliers self-lock on pipes and nuts with no slipping. Optimized shape jaw will grip round, square and hex shaped material. The box joint design provides high stability because of the double guide.

it’s been a long time comin ive had my eye on these for years but idk why i just never pulled the trigger. but in my job ive had to work more and more w plumbing n pipes and other situations where i needed a wrench to pry things open/loose.. i would use the old style tongue and groove pliers but haaaatteee the way u adjusted them: making them do the splits just to open it up like a quarter inch…. thas straight not dope ya know??? lolbut i was doing some xmas shopping for the fam when i came across these as well as some other Knipex tools for sale at prices i couldn’t pass up,…and boyyyy lemme tells ya, IM MAD AT MYSELF FOR MAKING ME WAIT THIISSS LONGGG TO EXPERIENCE KNIPEX AND WHAT A HAND TOOL REALLY IS!!my lord the teeth on these raptors are actually raptor razor sharp, they grab onto just about anything at the slightest bite. the size i ordered too are perfect for what i need them for and the feel of them are superb. they fit in the hand so naturally it makes squeezing them to get a good grab near effortless. and the compact size makes these the able to get into all of the most awkward and small tight spots i encounter w ease.and the build quality on these is just flat out perfect. i never thought i could see a tool that functions at a level these do, as well as have the looks and style to match.these are like (just like another high point for german engineers) a sleek sports car fresh on center platform at debut.i mean ive never had a set specific cleanup kit for a single tool in my life before, (usually prefer the opposite n to let em wear their grit n grime), but here we are as i keep a fresh mini wipe to use to get any shmutz off after use.and im not embarrassed to say that in the least lol.if there’s any Knipex hand tool put there you’ve always wanted, but felt u couldn’t justify the higher cost for it; do yourself a favor and stop wasting precious time that you could have spent raving about these amazing tools.youll be so mad at yourself for waiting so long once you hold them in your hands lol.(this purchase was my first ever for Knipex, and i got 3 items this time and each one is the best version of that particular tool ive ever seen/used. some are even better than multiple tools at easch of their different types of tools lol.)and just so its clear, its pronounced::’KUH-nip-EX’•not ‘NIPP-ex’• or ‘nigh-PEX’•

I bought a few different channel-locks to test, this being one. I also bought the Alligator model of this Knipex as well. The difference is that this has the push button and restricted jaw movement and the Alligator is a version that operates like regular channel-locks. I also purchased the Doyle version of the push button from HF. It is a 12″ Variety is the spice of life, I suppose. These are the narrowest at the business end 0.285″ but very thick to get the adjustment button to clear 0.650″. The traditional 10″ Knipex are 0.528 thick at the widest and 0.287 thick at the teeth. The channel locks are 0.410 and 0.410 thick so overall they are wider teeth and narrower body. and the 10″ Doyle is 0.303″ and 0.733 body including the adjustment button. I really like narrow because I do electrical work and sometimes places are pretty tight. The button is really obtrusive. I like the more traditional construction. I don’t like the button. Maybe I’ll get used to it, but after 60 years of being able to flip channel-locks into position with one hand, it will be difficult to get used to the restricted opening and two handed adjustment operation where you must hold one handle with one hand and push the button and slide the other handle into position. That doesn’t detract from the tool quality which seems to be top notch. The teeth really grab and are not damaged by a harder bold like my Channel-locks were. The Doyle were not damaged either. One thing about these is they are about 2x more expensive than the comparable Channel-locks, made in the USA and the Doyle, made in Taiwan and that was after a 43% off sale. really 4x the price is the stock pricing. That is a lot! These are made in Germany. I will not know how long they will last because I expect them to outlast me. Maybe my kids will find out but even then they are in their 50s so this may last longer than them too. So in summary, I would not buy these again. I would opt for the Alligator version if I bought this brand. That is very personal though as the quality is top notch.. I probably wouldn’t buy them again either. They are way too expensive for .1″ narrower. The Doyle is great for the larger size 12, 20″ (Doyle 20″ $30 Knipex $125 +/-) and the 10″ Channel-locks $20 perform well enough to last 50 years. If they weren’t stolen, I would not have even been in the market for a new pair.

Perfect small size for EDC. 6” overall length make it comparable in dimension to some multi-pliers fully extended while being lighter and slimmer. 1-3/8” jaw capacity exceed all multi-tools and make it a legitimate tool to have on hand. The five inch version seems cute but in many situations would be too small for me in size and capacity. A great tool that’s small but capable to have on you in the workshop, garage, around the house and camp ground. The only thing that would make this plier more handy is a belt sheath. I couldn’t find one made for it so I’m going to have to make a kydex one for it.

These are my go to pliers, absolutely the best and most used pliers/wrench in my extensive kit! Whenever I have a bolt/nut to turn or need to really strongly grasp something small I start with my Knipex Cobras, specifically my 7 1/4” (180mm), because 99 times out of 100 it’ll get the job done quickly. Whether I have a small part like a stuck cotter pin to remove, or a large 1”+ bolt/nut to turn it can handle most anything! Yes they aren’t the cheapest, but that is because they are quality, they truly are a replacement for many other wrenches and will be with you for life! There are imitators who’ve copied the design, some not too badly (I’ve even purchased a couple to try), but even the best of the competition pales in comparison! I own larger versions of these Cobras, but it’s truly extremely rare that I’ve ever needed to utilize them as the 7-1/4” are so useful and conveniently sized. When affecting a repair on the heavy equipment I maintain I

The 5 inch model is perfect for keeping in my pocket while I renovate my home. The adjustability is great and it grips everything securely. One of my favorite features is that the handle doesn’t get any wider as you change the width of the jaws. These are my favorite adjustable pliers. I will be buying different sizes in the future .

This is the absolute best pair of plyers I’ve ever owned. I 100% would not be happy if I lost them somewhere. I’d buy a new pair instantly, with no qualms about the price. I plan on picking up a second, larger pair to replace my large pair of Craftsman slip joint pliers.

Very fine adjustments to get the right size. Does not slip out of adjustment when opened like channel locks. Happy to see that no matter the opening size, you will not crush your fingers between the handles.

Little bolts I need to undo or bending wire is no problem. They are also perfect for clasp and clips on furniture, cars, and plumbing.
