It appears to be an OEM cap with the tether and same markings as the original. My vehicle threw a “gas cap” code while traveling out of state. I replaced the cap with an aftermarket cap from an auto parts store and the code kept throwing. I bought this one, and after my first fill up, the CEL disappeared and no more gas cap code.

Great replacement after my husband mysteriously lost the gas cap for his 2009 3-series BMW. FYI, after putting it on, we still had an error code. He went to auto-zone and they ran an OBD (On-board Display Dashboard) reader and reset the code .

I got this part for my 328i just because I read “genuine”, when it arrived I noticed that was a little different from my BMW part, the color inside from my BMW is green and this part is blue, anyway I installed and the car’s computer keeps saying to replace the gas cap, so I returned to amazon and order the real BMW part.

Cap came in a bag with BMW part sticker (and right part number). “Blau” is stamped into the plastic along with “Austria” so it is genuine OEM (or a very good imposter). Fits and seals but is different mechanism than the original with green as it doesn’t turn then click like it used to.OEM does not equate to BMW. BMW has these Original Equipment Manufacturers make and brand the parts, Blau does it for the gas caps. This is a new design for sure but it is legit, or it is a very good replica. If you’re not sure look at ECS Tuning or FCP Euro and they have pictures of the new design for this PN.

I recently forgot my gas cap at the station when I fueled up and ordered this one on Amazon. I have a Z3 which was not listed but I have it a shot…and it worked!! My check engine light has gone off thank goodness! Great purchase!
