Description

The all-new Grand Prix 5000 Tire from Continental is a worthy successor to its Grand Prix 4000 S II, standing at the top of the Continental road clincher range. The Black Chili compound uses the latest polymers and synthetic rubbers along with a proven natural rubber for a high-performance blend that’s truly race-worthy. It gives the tire greater ability to conform to imperfections in the road surface for excellent grip in demanding situations, which we appreciate for high-speed cornering.

Like the way the tan walls look they make the bike pop even more love it and light weight and very smooth to ride on as well and comfort…

I recently fitted these to my road bike for long rides, in place of a pair of Conti Gatorskin tires that I’d used for a few years for trips to the shops and commuting. Not that the Gatorskins were all that terrible, but the difference in comfort was really noticeable. Bumps in the road that had felt like bangs now felt like gentle thuds. I assume these aren’t as bombproof, but after a hundred mostly-urban miles I have no punctures yet.

Other than the defect in the tire it’s easy to install.

I ride rural country roads in Ky, these tires take a beating and get me back home again. Over broken pavement rocks and steep speedy downhill curves and enable me to see a lot of wildlife along the way. I Like these tires.

These replaced my five year old Bontrager R1 that came with my bike and in the very first 50 feet I knew I was going to like them. I increased my speed an immediate 2mph, set a personal best on my first ride. Absolutely love them.

There are better tires out there

I’ll only buy GP5000’s. I love that they now have colors besides just black. The transparent (brown) and cream sidewalls both look great. The cream definitely “pops” more. Overall great tires for a good balance between performance and puncture resistance. Usually you have to sacrifice rolling resistance to get flat protection but not with these. Sure you’ll still get flats, but it’ll have to be something pretty serious causing it.

So I do not have to choose between high performance and aesthetics. I had a friend ask to check out my vintage steel bike after I consistently out-paced and out-coasted his $7500 carbon fiber bike. Now he’s a convert to the GP5000 too. And the cream sidewall looks killer on a classic bike. No downside…
