Continental 0100173 Grand Prix 4-Season 700X23 Black Tire provides you with even greater puncture resistance thanks to the Duraskin fabric. Light-weight racing tires are especially susceptible to damage on the sidewall. Because of this, each year many cyclists are forced to abandon events, for instance in the Paris-Roubaix race. The Duraskin fabric reinforces the sidewall without significantly adding to the weight of the tire. In 2004, cyclists equipped with Duraskin tires had 80 percent fewer flats than those riding on other makes. The compound has also been modified for all-year-round use. You’ll cover more kilometers on the Grand Prix 4-Season and won’t have to worry about the tire compound hardening and thus the grip performance decreasing. The 23mm, 25mm and 28mm versions also make it possible to select the right tire for various road qualities and comfort requirements. The Grand Prix 4-Season tires also feature Vectran Breaker protection. Vectran is a lightweight, highly abrasion-resistant multi-fibered layer that sits under the tread, and is five times stronger than steel. Specs: Weight – 220 grams; Recommended PSI – 110; Maximum PSI – 120; Up – 10.
Thanks to its DuraSkin anti-tear fabric, the Grand Prix 4-Season holds up under extreme conditions. In the Paris – Roubaix race, the ‘Hell of the North’, cyclists equipped with DuraSkin enhanced tires have the fewest tire related problems during the race. Incorporating our special wear resistant carbon compound, the tire is characterized by very good mileage performance as well as excellent adhesion on wet roads and at low temperatures. With the 23 mm, 25 mm and 28 mm versions, the Grand Prix 4-Season makes it possible to select the right tire for various road qualities and comfort requirements. A double Vectran Breaker belt under the tread raises the puncture and cut protection to the highest level available on the market.

DuraSkin – the ultimate sidewallTires with DuraSkin sidewall protection have to be able to roll with the punches. They are used under the harshest conditions. On messenger bikes, the tires skid along curbs; on touring bikes, they cross continents without wearing out. During races, they have to endure tough tests such as the Paris-Roubaix. The high-quality polyamide fabric protects the tire casing against the worst conditions. These tires stand out thanks to their signature brown sidewalls. |
The Benchmark in puncture protectionVectran is a synthetically manufactured high-tech fiber from a natural model. Like spider silk, Vectran is a liquid-crystalline polymer (LCP). Vectran is spun from the melted liquid polymer Vectra and processed further to a multi-strand thread. Spider silk like Vectran has an enormous tear resistance at a very low weight: Exactly the right properties to process into a premium Continental bicycle tire as a puncture protection insert. A Vectran Breaker is lighter, more flexible and protects more effectively against cuts than the comparable nylon breaker. Vectran Breaker does not adversely affect the rolling resistance. |

I switched to the Grand Prix 4 Season from the 4000S, mostly because of sidewall failures. I immediately liked the 4 – Season. It felt durable and handled well. I had more confidence when the road was damp from fog, or encountering the sand in the tunnel at Camp Pendleton. I was very happy with the tires, and probably put 1,500 miles on my rear Kinlin wheel with no problems. But last month I changed to a set of FarSports carbon wheels. With less than 500 miles on the rear wheel I had a pinch flat at high speed, and had to replace the rear tire due to a thin 3/8″ horizontal split in the thin part of the sidewall, just above the rim. I know that I hit a small chuck hole that day while looking in the mirror, but other than that I cannot think of a reason for the split. Is it the tire? Is it the rider? Is it the roads? Is it the fact I ride a recumbent racer and the handlebars interfere with my view of the road, making it more likely to hit the occasional chuck hole? As a well-known English songwriter wrote, “Don’t ask me; I don’t know.”In sum, the Grand Prix 4-Season is a good daily driving tire. I replaced the one that failed with another, and bought a backup. But, I’m not thrilled with the number of Continental tires which have had a sidewall failure.

These tires are incredible. I have the 32c size on my priority Apollo belt drive and commute EVERY day, rain, sun whatever, ride across battered pavement and potholes, glass, next to construction sites etc.No flats after 3 months. These are basically the same as the gatorskins but a bit more tread which gives confidence in wet corners. 32c pumps to 102 psi, hard as a rock. Not too difficult to fit on the rim and look beautiful. ?? Hand made in Germany. You won’t regret these awesome tires.

These are my go to training tires. In my opinion these are the best combination of flat resistance and ride quality of any tubed tire available. Of course the 5000s and the Michelin pros feel faster and more comfortable but I was tired of changing flats. Almost 2 years and over two thousand miles with only 1 flat.

I carry this on my backpack while riding (60-100 miles)got a flat and had to replace tire on the roadvery easy to install and they roll wellthey are heavier than my previous tires but i’ll take that

I’m honestly impressed. Light weight yet durable. I ran over glass and rode through rough terrain in the southwest, great traction and puncture protection. Highly recommend.

Tires look great, similar to original tires on Specialized Vado Turbo 5.0

I like that they can be inflated to reasonably high pressures and they are good in bad weather. Where I ride there is not a great deal of risk of puncture but it is good to know that they are built to not puncture easily. The ride is good not sure I would race in these but in the rides I have taken in the rain I never experienced any sliding around. It has been a while since I put them on and I think they are not the easiest to install and they do not fold up like many of the tires I used in the past.
