The Abus Granit lock I bought is being used to chain up my heavy 16 foot tool trailer’s frame to my truck frame, and it’s been smashed numerous times between the truck hitch and the ashpalt and concrete roads when I hit a big bump or pothole. The outer casing has been mildly abraded away on the bottom and it’s scratched up a lot and areas of the finish have been worn off, but despite the stupid level of abuse it gets, it still functions like butter after 5 months of hard use. As the photos show I did realize how I can keep the lock from getting under the hitch, by putting the shackle through one of the safety chains’ upper portion. I do keep the lock regularly lubed with a dry lock lube (1yr switched to silicone works a little better) since this is within a foot of the road at all times, and have not seen any significant corrosion so far. VERY happy with this purchase. Locksmith I talked to at one time said he had to cut one of these, and it took him about 10 m

Jerks got so frustrated not being able to pick this lock they tried to destroy my chain link gate. The keys are not like any cheap lock keys. I have these locks on two gates and a barn door. Only one or two other easily available locks are safer: the Bowley ($300+ cost) and the “Forever lock”. The price of this lock is a lot more than a junk lock like Master, but it is well worth the bucks. For my house I do use a Bowley. I have 4 of these locks because they are really good.

There is a reason you pay what you do for ABUS products, especially the disc detainer style such as this one. I used this originally as a box truck lock to my great satisfaction and now use it for a shipping container storage unit. It comes with two keys, one of which has a built in LED light…neat, but ultimately a little pointless… and a key code card for key re-order should that be necessary. The long shackle adds versatility and works well for box truck swing arm locking mechanisms where a shorter shackle cannot be rotated to effectively close. I feel the price is worth it and would buy again if needed. While this type of core CAN be picked by a pro, it will be a significant time investment likely steering them to an easier lock on someone else’s stuff. The counter argument is that it says, hey, there’s something to steal in here. Look kids, if a thief wants what you have and they are skilled enough, they will get it, you might at least make it as hard a

I wanted a very heavy duty lock with MAXIMUM SECURITY. After doing extensive research. I found that the Abus Granit series is one of the most trusted locks. No they are not cheap. You get what you pay for with a padlock. These are hand made in Germany. Abus has a YouTube video of these locks being made. I use it paired with Pewag 1/2 inch 12mm security chain. This chain has plenty of YouTube videos of people trying to cut it. The chain is just as hard as the jaws on a bolt cutter. I use this combo to lock a trailer to a tree in my yard.

This lock seems super sturdy. Unfortunately we can not use it because it’s too thick to fit out storage unit lock.

I wanted the lock without the long shackle but they won’t fit Uhaul truck.Used this on my cross country move and through the rain without issues. The lock mechanism is the smoothest of any lock I have used. Of course this is also the most expensive lock I have ever used.

We used this on a Penske moving truck during a cross country move. It kept our belongings secure, it fit perfectly on the moving truck and it’s very well made.

This lock did NOT prevent my uhaul from being broken into. It did, however, force the thieves to break the latch once they eventually accepted the fact that they weren’t breaking this beast of a lock. You can see on the photos I attached how they tried their best to break this lock but they literally could barely scratch the surface. I’m beyond impressed with this lock and wouldn’t hesitate to use it for anything important! Just remember that your security is only as good as the weakest link, but rest assured this lock won’t be the limiting factor!

Giving two stars until I’ve used this. I bought this to secure my pods storage. Haven’t used it yet. What I can say is that it’s very industrial. Seems solid. There’s a lot of play in the arm kind of weird but like I said I haven’t needed just yet. I did notice the price keeps going up, was gonna order another one but I’ll probably go I’m another direction. Will give a another review later.

Used recently on a cross country move from Texas to Ohio. It worked well with our 20ft Uhaul. No issues with tampering with lock on 2 overnight stops. Now we’re using on shed in our backyard. Very smooth locking mechanism.
