Description

So what you need to know is that Sapper, one of the designers who has been with us the longest, the creator of some of our most innovative objects, in his own home is in charge grating cheese for the whole family. Thus his inspiration was based on extensive personal experience on this theme and this time around he has come up with a novelty that will be the joy of consumers of grated cheese. “Todo” has a truncated cone shaft that is exceptionally long and will grate enough cheese to satisfy the requirements for one portion just with one complete stroke. An excellent example of an object to exhibit on the table or in the kitchen, but at the same time it boasts a precise, state-of-the-art functional performance that just about transforms into playful gestural expressiveness one of the most boring and least qualifying culinary operations.

Alessigraphy: the Geography of Alessi Production

Since the Company’s Foundation in 1921 the Majority of Alessi Products have Been Manufactured through the Cold Working of Metals, a Tradition that is Kept Alive Today by the Skilled Workers at the Crusinallo Plant in Omegna.

Over time, Alessi also began to work with many other materials, such as porcelain, glass, wood, and plastic. A specific production method was developed for each one. Even when production takes place outside the Crusinallo plant, Alessi’s guidelines ensure the company’s original production quality standards, continuing to reconcile industrial technological complexity with an artisanal eye for detail.

The objects produced from the different materials are manufactured in various production plants across the world. They remain original Alessi objects in that they are conceived with the same design excellence and produced with the same attention to quality that sets the company’s products apart.

This is the best cheese grater ever made. Such a grand idea. So simple. Increase grating surface to increase efficiency–by an order of magnitude. I lusted after this kitchen tool for ages but only recently had enough disposable cash to justify spending $100 on a cheese grater. Worth every dollar. And you can use it to pose as a unicorn in between grating sessions. Bravo Richard Sapper once again!

I loved the design of this so much and being Italian, I grate a lot of cheese over a lot of dishes. But I use another grater. This one is just too pretty and too hard to clean and dry every time. I use this mostly for special occasions or to impress company and it does look really amazing tucked away on my counterspace. I do agree that the handle is somewhat flimsy, I thought it would be more sturdy too. I was able to find a replica for like $12 at homegoods but it was soooo much smaller and not as nice as this one. This is definetly a good item to keep on your wish list for holidays so you dont feel guilty for spending $100 on a cheese grater – but if you do, you’ll love it.

Beautiful product.. not sure if it’s strong enough tho

  4. Sean (verified owner)

The madre of all cheese graters. Want a showstopper of a table side cheese grater at home or a restaurant? This is the one, no question. Pricey until you receive it, then it’s yours and you’ll be happy you have it.

  5. Cheryl Natale (verified owner)

Beautiful to look at ! So easy to use and to clean !!!

  6. Omar Chamorro (verified owner)

It looks amazing, it does not feel so luxurious though(as it retail prize suggest), I got it on sale, otherwise I would not be so pleased with my purchase.

  7. billdar (verified owner)

I gave this to a friend that really got into making pasta in the pandemic. He loves it.

  8. William N. D’Onofrio (verified owner)

The grating function isn’t what I expected.

  9. Lovin Rocco in NYC (verified owner)

Works beautifully, grates cheese easily. Easy to clean too.

  10. russell g kavanagh (verified owner)

I saw this in a restaurant and knew I wanted one. When it arrived it looked exactly as I’d seen and as pictured. Then I tried to use it. It was completely useless. I could run my knuckles over the grater with no impact. I was so disappointed and returned it, It’s nice art but a crap utensil.
