This is the first Lamy pen I have owned. I have used quite a few pens in going through design school.The pen has a matte black finish on aluminum I assume. The length of the pen when engaged is slightly longer than other pens I’ve used. There is a noticeable heft to the pen – it does feel comfortable in use. It doesn’t feel flimsy and seems to be well made.This pen is sexy. The form is very much within the modernist palette of primary forms.The Swift has some delightful details: particularly at the clip. The clip stands out while the pen is not depressed, when engaged the clip retracts into the barrel creating an uninterrupted surface. It’s also is spring loaded at its top making it easy to clip onto shirt or in the front pocket.Offsetting the end clicker from the center of the pen’s section adds an added bit of visual interest as well as moving the end of the pen closer to ones thumb, which seems to make the action more comfortable. I had to return this pen twice to get one with an ink cartridge included, but it finally came, and I think Amazon has fixed the way they were packing it.The pen has a nice, hefty weight, with the center of gravity located about 2/3 of the way toward the back of the pen, which is perfect because it rests heavily on the side of your palm for stability, while allowing the point to move swiftly. The perforated grip is adequate, but I would actually prefer something with more texture, like a knurled grip, for instance.The coolest part of this pen is the pocket clip. Instead of being a flexible, breakable piece of plastic, it is the same stiff metal as the rest of the pen body. Instead of flexing, it pivots on a spring-loaded hinge, which you can simply squeeze when putting it into your pocket. And coolest of all, when you extend the nib of the pen, the pocket clip retracts into the body of the pen. This has two purposes: it gets the clip out of the way when you’re wr

The pen is a great looking/quality pen. It has nice weight and writing. The grip is an issue for me, it is rather awkward with the lip and distance from the tip. Another thing that bothers me is that the actual tip of the pen, the point, does not extend out quit far enough and is hard to “see” making writing again awkward. It is almost as though the tip of your pin was unscrewed and extended over covering the cartridge. One other thing the clicking action is oddly noisy. There is some sort of rubbing or grinding that sounds like nylon to nylon rubbing. Truthfully I am not sure this will become an often used pen and i would not purchase another. With all that said, I own several Lamy safaris and they are AMAZING. The brand is AMAZING. I just work in a large candy plant and can not use pens with caps. This pen design is just a fail for me. O’ this pen was supposed to come in a “nice” sort of box but instead came in one of those vented black Safari boxes. I was rather annoyed by that. It was also missing the Lamy guarantee leaflet that comes with there pens.

Love my Swift – I’d buy another if this disappeared. I’ve had it at least 5 years – no problems. Great mechanics, comforatble to hold, looks great. And here is the secret when buying ink…I tried the LAMY M66 refills and wasn’t crazy about their ink on a fine tip – to thin to see. I hunted around and found you could use the ink refills from Pilot (LG2RF) – the only modification you need to do is pop off the blue cap on the end of the refill – and it fits fine in the LAMY. Retraction works fine. The Pilot refills are cheaper, but that’s not why I use them – I just like the ink better from Pilot.So I have the best pen, with the best ink.

Maybe I’m spoiled by the Rotrings and their use of the international sized rollerball refills, and I really, really want to like this pen. Unfortunately, the proprietary — which should have been my first clue — refill’s ink is far too heavy. I like the weight and the shape of the pen, but that’s where my liking it stops. The bleed-through and ghosting on even the normal Moleskine paper, (albeit that isn’t what it used to either,) is beyond an acceptable level. If it would just take a standard refill all would be forgiven and it would be a 5 star from me. Sure, one could probably trim the plastic tube of another rollerball, but why should they have to?UPDATE: After some trial and error I found that the Pilot G2 refills do an OK job in this Lamy without modification. It isn’t as smooth a click as with the Lamy refill but it will work. The G2 is widely available in all sorts of colors and point sizes, it’s a decent refill at a much more reasonable price. So, I’ve

I can only review the look and feel of the pen itself, because I had to initiate a return. The pen’s clicking mechanism did not function so the pen would not stay engaged. I ended up sending this pen back the same day I received.However, I did note that it feels great in my hand. It’s got good weight to it, and I will likely purchase this directly from Lamy, as I have seen other reviews indicate they’ve also received an occasional sub-par item. The black body looks fantastic, and being a matte finish means no smears or smudges.Even though I sent this back, I’ll be buying another!

I love this pen, once I was able to replace the ink cartridge. The pen came with a default cartridge (labeled M66 B). I found this to skip a lot on the low quality paper that I write on (pharmacist; different types of prescriptions and default cheap office paper). I purchased a pen refill (labeled M66 M) and found this pen almost never skips. I love the weight, feel, and flow of the pen. The feel of the click leaves a little to be desired, but since it retracts the pocket clip when out I can forgive that. Due to HEAVY daily use (over about 2 months) the matte black finish is wearing off a bit by the top of the pen, only effects looks not functionality. So far it is great for everyday use! I may have just gotten a lemon initial ink cartridge, but if your first one doesn’t feel great try replacing it.

So just like the headline says…idk why I waited so long to buy this pen. Out of the box, the pen was sturdy, great quality and impressive finish. Some points I wanted to point out prior to use:1. I accidentally broke off the tab located right about the retracting clip as seen in the pic below. I wasn’t paying attention to this small tab at the time when I was trying to fidget around with the pen.2. Pen refill is sealed in an air-tight anti-static bag so have a knife/scissors ready to open it.3. Don’t drop the pen while tip is exposed; it will damage the rollerball assembly and will need replacement. I haven’t dropped my L331 but this is based on previous experience.I’ve used it a couple of times already since I received it yesterday afternoon and the way the pen writes on notebook paper is very smooth. The ink dries quick so it doesn’t run and it doesn’t bleed through the paper as well. The click mechanism doesn’t really have that cheap feel to it when actuating as some users mentioned. It’s firm and precise when retracting. Overall, this pen is a great value for the price compared to a Montblanc, Monteverde and Rotring rollerballs they sell. I don’t even think any of those brands sell a comparable (same price point) retractable rollerball pen at all. They sell rollerball pens with caps only, but I could be mistaken. I highly recommend this pen for EDC and/or daily use.

Bought this pen because I heard I could make a G2 refill fit pretty easily, but the stock cartridge writes well, so I haven’t tried that yet. What I am pleasantly surprised with is how the clip behaves. I predicted that the retracting clip would not last long, but it so far seems that I was wrong. It has plenty of give to secure it to even my heaviest shirt pockets.

The seller “The Watch Locker” removed the Lamy M66 rollerball cartridge that comes standard with this pen from mine and other customers’ Lamy Swift pens. You will get the frame with no internals and a box with an instruction manual telling you how to install the nonexistent cartridge. These OEM cartridges go for $7+ on the secondary market.This is actual theft and should be reported. Please watch who you are buying from!!
