Care Tips for Swiss Army Knives
The various tools of a swiss army knife are manufactured from high-quality steel with precisely tuned features that are essential for the particular application. The steel is tempered, annealed and polished to achieve the necessary hardness and provide optimum resistance to corrosion. With it’s unique build Swiss Army Knives require easy but particular care. Use the recommendations below to keep your knife at it’s peak functionality.
- SHARPENING: Use a whetstone at an angle of 15°– 20°. This will result in a cutting angle of 30°– 40°. If sharpening on a grinding wheel, cool with plenty of water to avoid excessive temperatures.
- CLEANING: Open and close the blades in warm water several times. When they have dried it is recommended to apply a small drop of oil between the blade, tool shank and the spring or locking mechanism.
- WARNING: Never put Swiss Army Knives in the dishwasher.

Arrived very quickly and looks fantastic, comes with 2 very sharp blades out of the box.I wanted the scissors, saw and metal file, this has them plus the usual.This is a 5 layer knife, with 5 layers on the back too. Many knives miss some out. So you get a chisel and mini flat head.Now, it does have the word ‘camping’ down one side, but Hey, it’s a tool, it’s for using not looking at.Only had it about a month but I love it.Haven’t tested everything yet but the saw works fine, the scissors are very good (as usual) and the two blades are perfect.It is a little heavy for a pocket, but no more so than a similar Leatherman.I will add that when I got it it was £25 or so. At that price it was a bargin.Everyone should have a good Victorinox Swiss Army Knife.A solid 5 stars.

Very nice knife. UK legal carry as it’s a folding, under 3″ blade. As with all victorinox Swiss army knives the quality of the craftsmanship is a good few steps above your average cheaply made pocket knife. It’s razor sharp out of the box and will stay this way with a regular quick strop on some leather. Look after it and this knife tool will provide good service for decades and will likely out last you! I still have my first SAK that is over 30 years old and still beats any cheapo pocket knife. I actually like the “camping” lettering as well. If only this model had the in-line Phillips head driver then it would be the perfect swiss knife for me.

This is the best Vitorinox for my need. I have it for a couple of years and I use it everyday, so useful, both inside the house and outside. I wear it on my belt using a Victorinox pouch which I also highly recommend. With a pouch, you remember you got it when you need it, as it doesn’t weight down your pocket. It is missing the plier but adding the plier would make it a lot bulkier and heavier. This ranger optimises the space as there are tools filling up all the back side. I got several other Victorinox, smaller and larger but for me this is the best toolset versus size. It saves so much time as I don’t have to rush to my toolbox so often especially when up a ladder or when holding something, i can just grab it with my other hand and get the job done immediately. There are cheaper immitation but the tools are useless on them, get a Victorinox you won’t regret it.

Well I bought this to take on my camping trips. It is quite fiddly to get out the different gadgets and I ended up breaking a few nails in the process. It has lots of useful gizmos and gadgets on it. I have used the knife – unfortunately on my finger – about an inch long cut, whoops! I suppose I have proved that it is sharp! It went through my finger like butter ?. I have also used the bottle opener (of course the most useful of all the gadgets) and the screw driver. I am always in need of a toothpick so glad that’s on there too. It is a very useful addition to my camping kit, I’m pleased with it and would recommend.

Okay, this is my favourite SAK. It’s not too bulky and the feature set is great, having the added file over the huntsman is an excellent addition without adding too much weight or extra size. I think the Huntsman is probably better value but I’ve used the file enough times to justify paying a little extra. A great choice for every day use.

I have a weakness for Swiss Army Knives. I lost my RangerGrip 178 130mm during a move and wanted to replace it (even though I still have a perfectly good 111mm One Hand Trekker).But I accidentally searched for “Victorinox Ranger” instead and happened across what may well be the most versatile tool in the Victorinox arsenal – the Ranger 91mm (ASIN B000AR79UW) with both metal and wood saws!I ordered one, and received a 130mm RangerGrip 78 instead (ASIN B00KNO2916)! The sticker on the box had been overlaid! So I returned it to Amazon, requesting a replacement, which was cheerfully honored. You guessed it – another RangerGrip 78! I should have been satisfied because it’s almost identical to the knife I lost and more expensive than the Ranger to boot. But it wasn’t what I wanted…When I returned it a second time I wasn’t offered a replacement, only a refund. Amazon doesn’t provide an easy way to offer feedback. Not happy.So I bided my time and waited for Prime day. Naturally neither of the knives I’d been waiting for went on sale.So I opted to buy one used from Refurb 360 and they accomplished what Amazon could not: delivered the requested product!With 7 slots on one side and 5 on the other offering 21 total tools, you won’t find a higher tool density in the 91mm form factor this side of the SwissChamp. Add a mini screwdriver to the corkscrew and upgrade to the deluxe Plus scales so you can store tweezers, ballpoint pen and FireFly ferrocerium toothpick and MacGiver’s your uncle!I think it strikes a fine balance between the FieldMaster and SwissChamp models.

Some tools I don’t use. For example, that “package hook” IDK what to use it for. I guess I can pull a guy line tight with it. The chisel is a good idea. I’m thinking a sharp (and, dude, it IS sharp) blade on the end will be useful at some point. Not many SAK’s have this tool.IMO, if a knife has scissors and can opener, it had better be good. These scissors are NOT cheap. They are sharp and do a good job. The saw is very aggressive, I cut down a white pine branch the diameter of the saw easily. Whatever you do, saw carefully and not let the saw bind and bend out of shape. . Saw straight on. Once that saw is bent in a curve, it will never work well again.Hint: open the corkscrew and place a shirt pin in the tiny hole in the scale. The pin would be useful for pulling out splinters, etc. Also buy a glasses screwdriver accessory that screws into the end of the corkscrew. Then you have another useful tool!The can opener works okay. Hint make you can punch and go forward, not back.The wire stripper is just a notch in the bottle opener/screwdriver tool. Use it in conjunction with the blade Search Youtube for more details. It does work!The file does more than file fingernails; It files real steel. The edge is a hacksaw, too.TBH, IDK what the belt punch awl is good for.Between the chisel and package hook, there is a small screwdriver and whatever else it is. It’s an odd looking tool, to be sure.Then, we have the SAK standard toothpick and tweezers. Dude, wash and/or replace the toothpick before you put it back after use (EWWW). The tweezers are what they are. They’re cheap, but they are there if you really need tweezers.

Besides being a good pocket utility knife, this is a good model for basic crafting in the woods. The blades, scissors, and saw are great. The SAK file has been modified since the last one I had. It is a decent little wood and plastic forming tool. It is a marginal metal file but will work well enough on moderately hard or softer metals if that is all you have. I have other mainline hiking, camping, hunting, and fishing gear and always carry a good quality multi tool. But, the SAK Ranger, along with a some practice and the add of a little ferrocerium rod, qualifies as a good quality, small, backup system to everything else.
