My teenager and I bought weight more than 250lb and ride heavy Ebikes. and magura mt5e on the front is all we had for stopping for a long time. We just recently got this set to replace the broken ones on the rear because a set of them on the front was more than sufficient stopping power for 320lb bike + rider @ 25mph, very happy with German engineering. I would have bought something cheaper for the rear but I like my stuff to match and I couldn’t find a hydraulic break with an integrated (not an attached switch) Ebike safety cutoff for $150 most start at $200

I’m a fan of properly functioning Shimano brake systems, have never been a fan of SRAM/AVID brakes due to the fact they almost always turkey gobble and make tons of noise. But I decided to buy these Magura brakes for a heavy eBike (Sur Ron X) because the OE stock brake system is terrible, a bad knockoff copy of Shimano brakes that used the same pad system. After proper bleeding these are amazing, god modulation but a LOT of power they can lock the wheels when needed. The levers feels right and don’t have a mushy feel and don’t pull all the way to the bar. Just enough motion to get it done with out tons of lever movement.

These brakes are so powerful. They can lock the wheels instantly if you want them to but they also have excellent modulation to slow the bike with light application. They are also quiet with no shuddering. The switches to stop the motor when the brakes are applied works perfectly too. For me these are the perfect Ebike brakes. I could not ask for any better performance. The installation was easy too. They came prefilled. I did have to cut and shorten the lines but it was simple and I was careful so they worked perfectly without messing with the bleed screws. Would I prefer metal brake handles? Yes, but the performance is so magnificent that I am elated with them. If I crash and break a handle I’ll be cursing them but right now I’m loving them. They perform flawlessly!
